Reimagine Education: A Synopsis

The digital age is now in full ow, with most aspects of life becoming digitalized. The attempt to link theworld together is also gaining momentum. In 2007 – just over a decade ago – only 1.3 billion people hadinternet access (20.6% of the world’s estimated population). In little over a decade years, that gure hasnearly tripled: 4.66 billion people began 2024 with internet access, or approximately 60 percent of the world’s population.

Education has long been a universal right, but until recently, the global infrastructure necessary for high-quality, affordable education accessible to all has not been in place. The huge leaps forward we have made towards a fully connected world mean that we can nally start to imagine, and implement, the steps necessary for bringing education in line with technological progress – in other words, the steps necessary to reimagine education for a fully digitalized, fully connected age.

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become clear that these imperatives - reimagining education for the digital age - are as urgent as they were in 2014, when Professor Jerry Wind, Lauder Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Nunzio Quacquarelli, CEO at QS Quacquarelli Symonds, inaugurated the initiative.

In 2024, Reimagine Education will continue to help innovators, thought leaders - Reimaginers around the world - make these imperatives a fullymanifested reality. We are again inviting all educators to apply to our highly-contested awards competition – in 2023, 1472 educational innovators from 72 countries submitted their projects to our 16 Award Categories. The shortlisted projects showcased their innovations to a global audience of 3000 educational leaders at the annual Virtual Reimagine Education Conference, which also saw the winners of our $50,000 funding pool revealed at our prestigious Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

Last year’s awards and conference saw our project grow and evolve: investors and educational consultants met innovators from edtech and from universities in virtual connect1-2-1 sessions, and all attendees benefited from expert-led workshops and world-renowned keynote speakers.
