Join us at the Chinese University of Hong Kong International Summer School (CUHK ISS) to enjoy all of that and more!

Details

At the five-week CUHK ISS July Session, you can:

  • Enrol in up to two academic courses (each with three credits) in four academic areas taught by Enrol in up to two academic courses (each with three credits) in four academic areas taught by outstanding CUHK and visiting professors from renowned overseas universities, as well as Chinese language courses in Putonghua and Cantonese. All courses will be taught in English apart from Chinese language courses.
  • Study with peers from around the world at CUHK’s multicultural environment.
  • Participate in excursions, activities, and visits to immerse in the local culture outside the classroom.

The July Session offers 20 content courses in four academic areas taught by outstanding CUHK and visiting professors from renowned overseas universities, as well as Chinese language courses in Putonghua (Mandarin) and Cantonese. All courses will be taught in English apart from Chinese language courses, and they will be delivered online via Zoom and other virtual learning platforms. Academic courses are accompanied by a slew of exciting virtual cultural activities ranging from city tours, cooking classes to heritage walks.  This year we will be recreating many of the popular ISS cultural activities virtually, and they will be specifically designed to promote interaction among participants.

Environment, Science and Technology

Some of the world’s most pressing challenges require solutions based on STEM and technology pervades all facets of our society and daily lives.  Our courses in Environment, Science and Technology provide knowledge in a range of discipline including engineering innovation, environmental sustainability and traditional medicine.

Global Business and Management

As the financial hub of Asia, Hong Kong is home to many multinational organizations.  Its status as the freest economy in the world and its pivotal role in China’s ambitious Greater Bay Area initiative will bridge the world to China. By drawing on examples from local, national and international case studies, students will be able to explore in depth the knowledge delivered in our Global Business and Management courses.

Chinese Language – Cantonese (For Non-Native Cantonese Speakers)

The world’s most spoken language is Chinese. Nearly 1.3 billion people speak a variation of Chinese as their first language, including 10 varieties of dialects. Challenge yourself to Putonghua and Cantonese, the dialect used in Hong Kong to connect with the Chinese people and its culture, and pave way for a vibrant career.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Full-time undergraduate students currently registered at a university with good academic standing can apply.

CUHK Students

  • You can apply for the ISS if you are currently a CUHK student. If you are a secondary/high school students who have received a confirmed offer from CUHK but yet to commence your university study, you must apply as a fee-paying student.

Exchange Students

  • You can apply for the ISS as an EXCHANGE STUDENT if you are studying at one of CUHK’s exchange partners and have been nominated for exchange. Please contact the study abroad office of your home institution for details about getting nominated to study at the ISS.

Non-local Fee-paying Students

You can apply for the ISS as a NON-LOCAL FEE-PAYING STUDENT if you are:

  1. A full-time undergraduate student from an institution that is not a CUHK exchange partner, or
  2. A student studying at a CUHK exchange partner but was NOT nominated for exchange (except the University of California), or
  3. A secondary/high school senior year student who have received a confirmed offer of admission from a recognized university outside of Hong Kong

Local Fee-paying Students

You can apply for the ISS as a LOCAL FEE-PAYING STUDENT if you are:

  1. A Hong Kong resident studying at a local (other than CUHK) or overseas university
  2. A secondary/high school senior year student who have received a confirmed offer of admission from a recognized university in Hong Kong

Cost/funding for participants

FEES

Notes:

  • All fees are subject to final confirmation by the University.
  • All fees paid are non-refundable unless otherwise specified. The caution money and hostel deposit (if applicable) will be refunded in late October if there is no outstanding payment.
  • The administration fee covers orientation, farewell, cultural and weekend activities.
  • The on-campus accommodation fee does not include a meal plan.
  • The visa fee covers a student visa to Hong Kong. All non-local students will be required to pay the visa fee through the online application system upon confirmation of registration. The following students will receive a refund for any visa fee overcharged: Hong Kong residents who do not need a student visa; students attending both ISS July and other CUHK summer programmes (if applicable); and current students in the International Asian Studies Programme (IASP) who extend their study at CUHK.
