Details

IMPORTANT: The mission of the Cape Tercentenary Foundation is to preserve, promote and encourage literature, the visual and performing arts and the natural and cultural environment in the Western, Eastern and Northern Cape Provinces. It may not, therefore, fund anything that falls outside this prescription.

  • The Cape Tercentenary Foundation Council meets twice a year to disburse funds. Closing dates for applications are the last Friday in April and the last Friday in September. Applications will not be considered at any other time.
  • The applicant must ensure that application forms are complete and reach the Foundation on time. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • It is expected that all information will be correct.
  • The applicant must supply the REFEREE’S REPORT (Appendix A) form to the referees. Completed reports must be sent by the referees directly to the Foundation and meet the stipulated deadlines.
  • A ONE PAGE PROJECT DESCRIPTION / ABSTRACT (Appendix B) must accompany the application.
  • Applicants have an automatic obligation to refund the Foundation if grants are not spent within six months of the award or are spent on anything other than stated in the application or stipulated by the Foundation.
  • Applications for funding of publications must include a completed manuscript in a form suitable for publication, a budget and a contract with a publisher.
  • The Foundation seldom funds projects in their entirety and encourages joint or even multiple sponsorship and evidence of self-funding. BUDGETS (Appendix C) should be detailed enough to assist the Foundation to identify an appropriate component for support e.g. printing costs of a programme.
  • The Foundation carefully considers the best value for money for travel grants and conference fees, weighing up the relative benefits of sending someone abroad or importing an expert to do the same job for a wider local audience.
  • Successful applicants will be expected to complete and return the EVALUATION (Appendix D) no later than six months after the award. They should consent to being published on the Foundation’s website or being listed in any way that publicises the work of the Foundation.
  • ACKNOWLEDGEMENT (Appendix E) of the Foundation’s assistance is self-explanatory.
  • Applicants will be informed of the decision of the Foundation six weeks after the closing date. The decision of the Foundation is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to reapply.
  • Incomplete applications, including those that are not supported by referees’ reports, will not be processed.
