Nomination process
The scholarship is granted primarily on the basis of academic excellence and the nomination process will be undertaken in parallel with the selection process for admission to the programme. Only applicants who fulfil the eligibility requirements of the programme applied for will be considered for a scholarship. After each of the applicants has been assessed in accordance to the selection process for their respective programmes, an overall assessment of all recommended applicants for the KTH Scholarships will be made based on the following criteria:
- The applicant's grades (GPA or equivalent)
- The ranking of the university where the applicant's bachelor's degree was awarded
- The selection process and the recommendation of the director of the applied master's programme
- The applicant's motivation, relevant work experience and extra-curricular activities
In October, the application opens for master's studies starting in 2024, and you apply through University Admissions, the Swedish national application system. The last day to apply is 16 January. Some joint programmes have a later application deadline.
Master's programmes
KTH offers over 60 master’s programmes organised into nine subject areas. The programmes present an opportunity for students with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent to obtain a master's degree of the highest international standard. KTH also offers around 15 joint master’s programmes given in collaboration with other prominent technical universities, resulting in one degree from each university.
The number of places for each programme is limited and admission is highly competitive. The programmes start late August and finish early June, and correspond to two years unless otherwise specified.
An innovative European technical university
Since its founding in 1827, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world dedicated to advancing knowledge.
Versatile solutions to global challenges
KTH is working with industry and society in the pursuit of sustainable solutions to some of humanity’s greatest challenges: climate change, future energy supply, urbanisation and quality of life for the rapidly-growing elderly population. We are addressing these with world leading, high-impact research and education in natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as in architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy. Almost two-thirds of the SEK 4 billion turnover relates to research.
Basic and applied research are performed side-by-side at KTH and interdisciplinary research is conducted in parallel with work in specific fields. This approach encourages versatile solutions and the innovative climate creates many opportunities to realise great ideas. Our educational programmes foster a new generation of engineers, architects, teachers and undergraduate engineers.
KTH embraces academia and the public and private sectors working together. We are part of extensive international research collaborations and participate in a large number of educational exchange or joint programmes with universities and colleges in Europe, the U.S., Australia, Asia and Africa.
