Overview

Künstlerhaus Lukas on the Baltic Sea offers residencies to artists working in Visual Arts and Media, Literature/Language, Music/Composition, and Performing Arts in Ahrenshoop.

Freelance, professional artists of all ages residing in Germany and the Baltic Sea countries (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark) as well as Norway and Iceland are eligible to apply.

The duration of the scholarship is flexible, based on the artist's project and personal circumstances.

In addition to the free stay at Künstlerhaus Lukas, recipients of this scholarship (subject to funding from the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) receive a monthly stipend of €1,200 (€600 for 14 days).

The next application phase begins in June 2025.

Scholarship at Künstlerhaus Lukas

Flex Scholarships: 14 days, 1 month, 2-3 months

Künstlerhaus Lukas offers international scholarships in collaboration with partner institutions in the Baltic Sea region and Iceland. Freelance, professional artists of all ages residing in Germany and the Baltic Sea countries (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark) as well as Norway and Iceland working in Visual Arts and Media, Literature/Language, Music/Composition, and Performing Arts are eligible to apply.

Curatorial Scholarship

Duration: 2 month

Künstlerhaus Lukas, in collaboration with the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop, offers two-month curatorial scholarships. The goal is to realize interdisciplinary curatorial concepts that involve former scholarship recipients as well as external, international positions.

The curatorial scholarship is open to all artistic disciplines. Concepts should include plans for accompanying events and art education. The two-month curatorial scholarships are worth €2,400, consisting of a scholarship of €1,900 from Künstlerhaus Lukas and a project fee of €500 from the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop.

A budget of up to €3,500 is available for artist fees, travel and accommodation costs, transportation, event fees, and exhibition design (subject to annual budget approval).

Requirements for Curatorial Scholarships:

  • Curators, scholars, artists, and former scholarship recipients of Künstlerhaus Lukas can apply.
  • Approximately half of the curatorial projects should involve former scholarship recipients. The alumni archive of Künstlerhaus Lukas can be used for research purposes.
  • Guest curators are willing to collaborate with the artistic management of Künstlerhaus Ahrenshoop e. V. to develop grant applications, prepare, set up, and open exhibitions in coordination with the artistic director of the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop. They are also ready to conduct accompanying events (tours, workshops, film screenings, etc.) and provide information to visitors.
  • The exhibitions at the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop typically run for about three months, with the exact timing determined collaboratively. Contracts will be drawn up for the projects. The general operating costs for the exhibitions and supervision during opening hours will be covered by the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop.

Curatorial Scholarship with a Focus on Ecology

Duration: 2 month

Künstlerhaus Lukas offers two-month curatorial scholarships with a focus on ecology, in collaboration with the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop. The aim is to present art formats at the intersection of ecological issues and provide a public platform for pressing contemporary questions.

The curatorial scholarship is open to all artistic disciplines and can include readings, lectures, workshops, and more in the accompanying program. While the specific ecological theme, artistic positions (including alumni), and event formats are free to choose, they should be included in the concept.
