Details

General information on internships at SEI HQ

We aim to attract the most competent and skilled students with the appropriate experience for our needs. SEI HQ recruitments are based on respect for the individual no matter of gender, gender identity or expression, age, union representation or political opinion, functional variation, sexual orientation, religion or ethic orientation, nationality, marital or parental status.

While internships are generally open to all students, priority is given to matriculated university students for whom an internship is either part of their curriculum or a thesis project. Priority is also given to students from universities with whom SEI has collaboration agreements (Stockholm University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Lund University). We welcome applications from those that have specific interests that are of relevance to the work of SEI. In general, we expect candidates to have some prior knowledge of the research area in which they will be working. The internship may, for example, include the writing of a master’s thesis.

Internship period

We offer two internship periods per year: January–June and August–January, in alignment with the Swedish academic year. The application period for the spring semester takes place in October–November the previous year and April–May for the autumn semester the same year. Please note that the application period for Autumn 2022 is over and we will no longer accept any applications.

We do not offer any internships during the summer months.

About us

We connect science and decision-making to develop solutions for a sustainable future for all.

Our work spans climate, water, air and land-use issues, governance, the economy, gender and health. Stakeholder involvement is at the heart of our efforts to build capacity, strengthen institutions and equip partners for long-term change.

Our knowledge and findings are accessible to decision-makers and civil society: as our own open access material, in leading academic journals, and repackaged for effective decision support.

To promote debate and share knowledge we convene decision-makers, academics and practitioners and engage with policy processes, development action and business practice worldwide.

We are:

  • International: SEI has offices in five continents and works locally, regionally and globally.
  • Trusted: decision-makers and the academic community recognize us as an independent and non-partisan institute.
  • Credible: our research is objective and supported by rigorous peer review.
  • Relevant: our work makes connections across the natural, physical and social sciences, allowing us to take new angles and offer robust, insightful policy advice.
