Overview

Are you looking for funding to realise your doctoral project? Do your previous study and examination achievements demonstrate a special ability with regard to academic work? Is your work making a significant contribution to research? Then become a doctoral scholarship holder of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom! We support around 150 doctoral students from all disciplines annually who are working on a convincing and innovative research project and have been admitted to a doctoral programme at a university.

Applications can only be submitted online. The online application (in German) is open from 1 to 30 April.

The closing date for applications are 30 April / 31st October annually.

About the Friedrich Naumann Foundation

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom is the foundation for liberal politics in the Federal Republic of Germany. It aims to promote the goal of making the principle of freedom valid for the dignity of all people and in all areas of society, both in Germany and abroad. With the safeguarding and the development of its statutory projects (civic education and dialogue, sponsorship of the talented, research and political consultation, archive-work), the Friedrich Naumann Foundation wants to contribute to shaping the future.

TARGET GROUP

Doctoral students from Germany and abroad can apply for the scholarship.

Requirements for applicants include the following:

  • non-German citizenship
  • unconditional university admission
  • full-time PhD in Germany at a state or state-recognised university
  • academic project of considerable relevance to research
  • knowledge of German

Cost/funding for participants

What form does funding take?

Scholarship holders receive a maximum stipend of 1,000 euros per month. In addition, a health insurance subsidy of up to 125 euros per month will be granted. The scholarship is initially approved for a one-year period, and can be extended by one further year upon application.
