Overview

The purpose of the International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies (WEBIST) is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the technological advances and business applications of web-based information systems. The conference has four main tracks, covering different aspects of Web Information Systems, namely Internet Technology, Web Intelligence and Semantic Web, Social Network Analytics, HCI in Mobile Systems and Web Interfaces.

Details

WEBIST focuses on real world applications; therefore authors should highlight the benefits of Web Information Systems and Technologies for industry and services, in addition to academic applications. Ideas on how to solve business problems using web-based information systems and technologies, will be discussed at the conference.

Workshops

The purpose of workshops is to provide a more interactive and focused platform for presenting and discussing new and emerging ideas. The format of paper presentations may include oral presentations, poster presentations, keynote lectures and panels. Depending on the number of presentations, workshops can be scheduled for 1 day or 2 days. All accepted papers will be published in a special section of the conference proceedings book, under an ISBN reference, and on digital support. All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. SCITEPRESS is a member of CrossRef and every paper is given a DOI (Digital Object Identifier). The proceedings are submitted for indexation by SCOPUS, Google Scholar, DBLP, Semantic Scholar, EI and Web of Science / Conference Proceedings Citation Index.

Special Sessions

Special sessions are very small and specialized events to be held during the conference as a set of oral and poster presentations that are highly specialized in some particular theme or consisting of the works of some particular international project. The goal of special sessions (minimum 4 papers; maximum 9) is to provide a focused discussion on innovative topics.

Tutorials

The role of the tutorials is to provide a platform for a more intensive scientific exchange amongst researchers interested in a particular topic and as a meeting point for the community. Tutorials complement the depth-oriented technical sessions by providing participants with broad overviews of emerging fields. A tutorial can be scheduled for 1.5 or 3 hours.

Demos

Demonstrations provide researchers and practitioners with an exciting and interactive opportunity to present their systems, artifacts and/or research prototypes, either at a regular session or at the technical exhibition. In any case, it is required to avoid a commercial format, even if the demo consists of presenting a business product or service. Instead, the presentation should focus on technical aspects.
Any written support materials may be distributed locally but not published in the proceedings. Authors who already present a paper at the conference may apply for a demonstration, to complement but not to replace their paper presentation. Demonstrations can also be made by sponsor companies or as a mixed initiative involving researchers and industrial partners.

Demonstrations are based on an informal setting that encourages presenters and participants to engage in discussions about the presented work. This is an opportunity for the participants to disseminate practical results of their research and to network with other applied researchers or business partners.

Concerning the format of the demo, we can accommodate it either as a demonstration in a booth (physical area of 4 sq. meter, with a table and 2 chairs) at the exhibition area, as a poster or as a 20 min oral presentation at a session especially set up for demonstrations. It is also possible to organize the presentation of the same demo in more than one format. Please contact the event secretariat.

In the Expression of Interest Form you should specify:

  • What exactly will be demonstrated: a system, an artifact, a research prototype, other?
  • What is the theoretical background and application possibilities of the object of demonstration?
  • What exactly will a participant learn from the demonstration?

Panel

A panel is basically a one and a half hour to 2 hours session in which four to six speakers - distinguished members of the scientific and/or enterprise community, briefly present different perspectives/opinions on key issues with the goal of stimulating a lively, controversial, and provocative discussion. Panelists are expected to actively debate one another and engage the audience to help broaden understanding of the technologies and issues. Two types of panels are to be considered: Research Panels, oriented to the academic community and focused on the discussion of research topics; and Industrial Panels, oriented to promote knowledge exchanges between academia and industry.

Doctoral Consortium

The Doctoral Consortium will take place in conjunction with the International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies (WEBIST). The doctoral consortium will provide an opportunity for graduate students to explore their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of distinguished experts in the field.

The Doctoral Consortium is intended to bring together Ph.D. students within the Web Information Systems and Technologies field to discuss their research in an international forum. More precisely, the Doctoral Consortium will provide students with an opportunity to:

  • Present their research work in a relaxed and supportive environment;
  • Receive feedback and suggestions from peers and experienced faculty members;
  • Gain an overview of the breadth and depth of agents and artificial intelligence;
  • Obtain insight into directions for agents and artificial intelligence research taken by other doctoral candidates;
  • Discuss concerns about research, supervision, the job market, and other issues;
  • Network with peers and future colleagues

Thus, the symposium will help shape ongoing and future research projects aimed at web information systems and technologies, will promote scholarship and networking among new researchers in this emerging interdisciplinary area, and will expose these promising young researchers to the larger global community.
