Located in the sunny south-east of Ireland, SETU Waterford is one of the largest and most academically reputed state colleges in Ireland. Only recently, SETU Waterford was named the Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the year for the third time.

About Waterford

Waterford is a city and a port located in the South East of the county. It is the designated Gateway to the South East Region, with good shopping, social-life and facilities for sport and recreation. It is the fifth biggest city of the Irish Republic with a population of about 50,000 people. It is easily accessible from the capital Dublin (160km) by train or coach.

Undergraduate Study at SETU Waterford

SETU Waterford offers programmes of studies at higher certificate, bachelor degree and honours bachelor degree levels. Programmes leading to a Higher Certificate take 2 years of full-time study, Bachelor Degrees take 3 years and Honours Bachelors Degrees take 3-4 years of full-time study.  

Advanced Entry into Undergraduate Programmes  

Students who have completed University or College awards in their own country may be considered for advanced entry into SETU Waterford programmes further to making an application to the university. 

Postgraduate Study

SETU Waterford offers postgraduate courses at Masters and Doctoral (PhD) levels for students who meet the academic requirements for admission. Achieving higher degrees greatly enhances the holder’s employability, earning capacity and promotional prospects. Postgraduate degrees may be undertaken in either taught mode or research mode.

Scholarships for Undergraduate Programmes Eligibility

  • The SETU Waterford academic scholarship programme is open to self-funding non-EU students for full-time programmes of study.   
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate a high level of achievement in their academic performance upon application. A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent is also required (with a minimum of 6.0 in each band). 

Scholarships for Postgraduate Programmes

  • The SETU Waterford academic scholarship programme is open to self-funding non-EU students for full-time taught programmes. Applicants must satisfy the entry requirements of the programme for which they have made an application.
  • In general, they must demonstrate that they have completed an undergraduate degree (equivalent to a level 8 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications), and have achieved a minimum average result of 65% in their Bachelor degree and the relevant English language requirement. Some academic programmes may have other entry requirements. A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent is required (with a minimum of 6.0 in each band).

Cost/funding for participants

Scholarships for Undergraduate Programmes

  • The SETU Waterford academic scholarship for undergraduate programmes provides for a reduction of 20% in tuition fees for each year of the programmes, subject to the student achieving an average grade of 60% in each academic year of the programme of study.

Scholarships for Postgraduate Programmes

  • The SETU Waterford academic scholarship for postgraduate programmes provides for a reduction of €2,000 for full time, taught postgraduate programmes.
