Opportunity of a Lifetime
WiSci Girls’ STEAM Camps are an elite opportunity for secondary school girls from around the world to dive into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, Mathematics) subjects alongside their peers and develop their leadership skills in a unique cross-cultural environment, with all expenses paid.
WiSci Camps are a safe, supportive, and girl-centered environment, bringing together 100 teen girls from three or more countries, to live and learn together for two weeks while exploring their interests in STEM. Camps include expert facilitators in STEM and girls’ leadership who provide a first-class classroom curriculum, mentorship opportunities, and skills training. Campers learn to value taking risks and to bounce back after failing, in a fun camp environment.
Since 2015, WiSci Camps have been made possible thanks to private-public partnerships between Girl Up and the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Global Partnerships, Intel, Google, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and many other incredible partners who are committed to closing the gender gap in STEAM.
What does a typical day at the camp look like?
No day at the WiSci Camp is the same! The camp will encompass all aspects of STEAM alongside cross-cultural and leadership activities. The core STEAM curriculum will offer participants hands-on experience, including work in pairs and small groups. Campers will also participate in leadership development sessions, small group discussions, and cultural-exchange activities including cultural presentations led by the participants themselves. Campers will interact with mentors in various STEAM fields, and there will also be time for other fun activities like arts and crafts and sports. Campers can expect to learn through many different forms and will be busy from morning to lights out/bedtime in the evening.
Further information on the camp schedule will be shared with participants in advance of the camp.
While attending a WiSci Camp, girls can expect to:
- Participate in hands-on trainings to develop STEAM and leadership skills: from coding, to creating a microscope with cell phones, to programming drones and artificial intelligence, WiSci campers connect STEAM with creating social impact in their communities;
- Connect into a wide global network, both at camp and after, full of over 500 girls and young women from over 35 U.S. states and over 20 countries;
- Experience on-site mentorship from industry experts and build new friendships with global peers; and
WiSci is a proven program for developing girl leaders interested in STEAM.
To date, WiSci Camps have:
- Trained 500+ girls, who have participated from 20 countries around the worldOver 50 final camp projects completed by cross-cultural camper groups, creating innovative STEAM for Social Good solutions;
- Led to 90% of past campers to rate their leadership skills improved as a result of WiSci Camp; and
