Overview
Tallinn Summer School, organised since 2006, is a 3-week programme running in July, combining a wide range of courses with a rich, diverse cultural programme and attracting participants from all over the world. In addition to a variety of social events, participants visit museums, historical sights, places of cultural importance, and see some of the nature of Estonia on weekend trips to different locations within the country. Tallinn Summer School manages to maintain a scholarly approach alongside a relaxed atmosphere, studying at the same time as exploring the culture of Estonia.

Tallinn University is the largest university of humanities in Tallinn and the third biggest public university in Estonia. We have more than 7,000 students (with 11% of them international), and close to 900 employees, including over 450 researchers and lecturers. Tallinn University is very strongly committed to internationalisation.
As the capital and largest city in Estonia, Tallinn is a major European political, cultural and educational centre. Often called the Europe’s answer to Silicon Valley, E-Estonia has the highest number of startups per person in Europe and is the birthplace of many international companies including Skype. It is also the home of the NATO Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence.

The essence of the social and cultural programme is to help the participants at Tallinn Summer School to gain a valuable overview of Estonian culture based on local heritage and to enhance links between the different courses. We endeavour to show you the wide diversity of Estonia’s culture and to create a meeting place for you all.

Description of Ideal Candidate
Tallinn Summer School has different requirements for each course. Some courses are designed only for PhD and Master level students. The language courses and the art workshops welcome anyone interested in language, culture and art. If there are any special requirements, they are listed under the course description. The number of credits varies according to the course.

SCHOLARSHIPS

The Estonian Education and Youth Board offers foreign students free places on courses in the Estonian Language at summer schools organised by Estonian universities. The free place includes tuition and accommodation in the least expensive double room. The applicant must cover the costs of travel to and from the course and meals. More information is available on the Education and Youth Board’s website. Please note that the scholarship is only for students who are already learning Estonian.

Estonian Governmental Scholarships. The scholarships are intended to support participation in summer courses of Estonian language and culture as well as in courses of summer and winter schools related to the English-language curricula of degree study in Estonia.
