The Global Model WHO is organized by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Details

The Global Model WHO will provide an authentic student-led simulation of the World Health Assembly (WHA) to high school and university students from all over the world.

The Global Model WHO aims to be inclusive and diverse in participation ensuring representation from different disciplines, geographical regions, gender identities and income settings.

Set against the backdrop of Geneva’s stunning landscapes and the iconic Jet d’Eau fountain, the conference venue is located within walking distance of Geneva’s historic landmarks and cultural attractions. During their free time, attendees can explore the city’s rich history, vibrant culture, and major sights, including the Palais des Nations, Geneva’s old town, or the Flower Clock. Discover local treasures at the city’s markets, and unwind amidst the beauty of Lake Geneva.

Students will learn about:

  • global issues and how decisions are made
  • how to chair meetings and negotiate resolutions with the aim of reaching consensus on the resolutions they will adopt.
  • leadership, diplomatic and a range of personal skills including but not limited to, negotiating, debating, public speaking, and conducting research on global public health issues.

Audience: some simulations will be open to university students who are currently studying medicine, nursing or global health. Participation in other simulations will be open to high school or university students who may have a general interest in learning about the global issues on the WHO agenda even though they may be studying other subjects.

Eligibility

  • Global Model WHO welcomes youth between the age of 14 and 30 from the African Region, Region of the Americas, South-East Asia Region, European Region, Eastern Mediterranean Region, Western Pacific Region, who have experience in Model UN or have high interest in global affairs, health, and the World Health Organization.
  • Delegate participants must be enrolled in a high school, university, grad school, or be a recent graduate under the age of 32.
  • High school and university level conferences will operate separately with the exception of Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and side events.
  • University delegates may register as part of a group or as an individual.
  • High school delegates may register as part of a group or as an individual.
  • The Global Model WHO also welcomes advisors who have a role in planning and organizing MUN conferences and teachers who use Model UN in their education curriculum.
  • All underage individual delegates must be accompanied by a chaperone.

Cost/funding for participants

Registration Types and Fees

  • The delegation fee for high school or university groups is $129 per group, which includes attendance for one faculty advisor for free.
  • The fee for high school or university delegates who are part of a group is $229 per delegate during Early Registration or $259 per delegate during Regular Registration.
  • The fee for high school or university delegates who are attending individually is $269 during Early Registration or $299 during Regular Registration.
  • The fee for additional advisors, chaperones, or observers is $189 per individual.

Do you offer scholarships?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any scholarships for Global Model WHO at this time. However, we are actively looking for schools who will be participating in the conference to sponsor individual students from the Global South. If this becomes available, we will post it on our website. We encourage all those who need funding to approach their academic institution, local businesses, or foundations in their home country.
