Our International Summer Course offers you:

  • professional German courses (a total of about 85 hours of 45-minute lessons, approx. 25 hrs./week)
  • a graded certificate and 5 ECTS credits
  • the opportunity to participate in a seminar on didactics and methodology for German as a foreign language
  • academic lectures and seminars by professors of Trier University
  • individual exchange and communication with students from Trier
  • city tours through Trier and Luxembourg
  • excursions to the Moselle, Luxembourg and France
  • regional cuisine & cooking together
  • music, dance, games & fun

Information about the course programme

Core elements of the International Summer School are not only the german classes, but also the academic lectures and seminars, a seminar for german teachers (DAF Fortbildung) and the varied cultural programme around the course.

All programme points are coordinated in terms of content and are included in the total price. The course motto "Germany and its Neighbors" indicates that in the context of this course, European understanding plays a central role in the linguistic as well as in the scientific and regional aspects - this is part of the self-image of Trier University as a university in the Euroregion SaarLorLux.

The course is not only about language proficiency, but also about strengthening your oral communication skills and immersing into german academic fields, german communication and culture.

Course offerings:

  • German courses at basic level, at intermediate level (B 1 and B 2) and at advanced level (C 1 and C 2) (usually in the morning 9:00-12:30)
  • Certificate "Didactics and Methodology of German as a Foreign Language" (for C-level)
  • Conversation course for lower and intermediate levels (on 6 afternoons 14:00-16:00)
  • Scientific lectures and seminars for the higher levels (on approx. 6 afternoons 14:00-16:00)
  • Supervised projects on various topics, e.g. creative writing, city history of Trier, favorite places.

Contens of the german classes: Language courses from A1 to C1/C2 level. The language courses cover elementary, intermediate and advanced levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1). The main course goal is to deepen and expand practical language skills in the areas of reading and listening comprehension as well as speaking and writing. The courses focus on improving grammatical, lexical, and idiomatic skills. Authentic texts from common media, literature and science are used.

Course completion: Final exams and graded certificate (CEFR/GER). After successful participation in the classes and the exams you will receive a graded certificate with 5 ECTS points.

Cost/funding for participants

Course Fee in Total: circa 750€ (including bus/train ticket)

Included in the fee:

  • ca. 75 hours of classes (à 45 min.)
  • ca. 12 hours conversation OR seminars
  • copies for the language classes (you do NOT need to buy a book!)
  • final exam and certicate (CEFR)
  • ca. 6 hours of academic lectures by university professors
  • Reception in the Town hall
  • a guided tour through the roman city of Trier
  • 3 full-day excursions on Saturdays
  • visit of a classical concert in the Roman Imperial Throne Room (Basilika)
  • evening program (Monday to Friday)
  • a ticket for public transport (Kombi-Ticket of VRT Verkehrsverbund)

Scholarships

DAAD-Scholarship holders: Course fees and accommodation expenses are deducted directly from your scholarship so that you are paid only the remaining amount.

Other scholarships: Besides of the DAAD scholarships unfortunately there are no other scholarships.
