Regardless of whether you are enrolled as a student or already in practice, the Bucerius Summer Program in International Business Law can help you to boost your skills in these areas and increase marketability.

The program is designed for advanced law students and recent graduates wishing to acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of international business law and gain valuable intercultural communication skills by working in small groups with students from different legal backgrounds.

By working in small groups with students from different legal backgrounds, you will be able to gain valuable intercultural communication skills while acquiring in-depth knowledge in the fields of international business law and comparing perspectives with participants from across the globe.

Description of Ideal Candidate:


Applicants from countries where law is studied at the undergraduate level (such as Germany), must have completed at least two years of their legal education by the start of the program.


Applicants from countries where law is studied at a graduate level (such as the United States), must have completed at least one year of law school at the time the program begins.

English language skills

Participants are expected to have a good command of English and must submit proof of their language proficiency unless they are currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an English-taught degree program.

Under certain circumstances, we may be able to waive the test requirement and arrange for a telephone interview to assess your English skills, e.g. if you spent a significant amount of time in an English-speaking country or were enrolled in numerous courses or a short-term program taught in English. If you do not have a (valid) English proficiency certificate and would like to discuss this option, please feel free to contact us.


Applicants may submit any of the following to satisfy the minimum requirement for participation:

  • TOEFL Internet-Based Test (IBT): 90
  • IELTS Academic Program: 7.0
  • CAE: B or CPE: C
  • ILEC

German language skills are not required. Optional language coursework is available for those who wish to boost their German skills (or get started with the language) in the weeks before or after the summer program.

Bucerius Law School is pleased to offer a limited number of need-based scholarships to highly qualified participants in the Bucerius Summer Programs. Each scholarship includes a partial or full tuition waiver. It does not cover travel cost or/and living expenses.

Applicants should fill out the Scholarship Application Form and submit it with their application to the program.

Allocation of funds will take place following the early bird and final application deadlines, i.e., in two rounds. Qualified applicants who have submitted all relevant documents, i.e., a complete online application and scholarship application, will be notified of both their admission status and scholarship offer in either mid-March or mid-May.

Submissions of scholarship applications after the application deadline(s) cannot be considered.
