EU Youth Ambassadors are a group of engaged 13-30 year olds who are taking the lead on tackling the challenges facing Europe. They come from a variety of countries and backgrounds, but share the desire to make a difference and have their voices heard. From challenging stereotypes to standing up for sexual rights, they are planning and carrying out projects on issues that matter to them.

EU Youth Ambassadors are determined to share their passion with others, encouraging young people across Europe to take a stand.

The issue

European youth are not engaging in the democratic process. Voter turnout in the last European elections was the lowest ever recorded. Voting – or not voting – is a habit. If we don’t address this problem, we are looking at a future where the vast majority of EU citizens don’t vote.

Meanwhile, many young Europeans aren’t volunteering, and are unaware of the fantastic opportunities available to them as EU citizens.

Young Europeans deserve to be included in the democratic process, and we need them to be active citizens. An engaged citizenry is key to the strength of our democracy. If we don’t engage young people now, we are setting ourselves up for the dangerous reality of a fragile democracy and a disengaged generation.

The campaign

The EU Youth Ambassadors campaign aims to increase political engagement and active citizenship amongst 13-30 year olds. Volonteurope is working in partnership with its members across Europe to support young people to plan and carry out projects. Focusing on issues that matter to them, Youth Ambassadors are invited to get creative, using art, digital media and sport to get their message across.
