Overview
The purpose of the Foundation Blanceflor Boncompagni Ludovisi, née Bildt, is to promote scientific education and research by granting individual scholarships to scholars with Italian or Swedish citizenship to support their studies abroad. Studies and research should be carried out abroad – i.e. in a country different to the where the applicant has its citizenship – in one or more of the following countries: Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, UK or USA.

Application and report
The application dead line is 1 February – or the following Monday if 1 February falls on a weekend – for the coming academic year (understood as from 1 July until 30 June the following year). The time zone used for the dead line is CET, Central European Time equal to UTC/GMT+1.
The Scholarship is not granted retroactively, but conceded for a coming period.
The application is made through a website form and accompanied by there specified documents to be uploaded.
Within six months from finishing the studies/research the Foundation should receive a written report and account of the results, ideally together with some paper or thesis, whether published or not. The report should also be made through the correspondent web form, uploading the relevant documents.
Decision
The Board meets at least once every year to decide on the assignment of scholarships. Before the end of April grants are communicated and the names posted on the Foundation website. Approved as well as dismissed applicants are notified by e-mail.
The Board does not give any motivation, neither to approvals nor to dismissals.

Subject areas
The subject areas of the Foundation are physics, chemistry, odontology, medical science, engineering, computer science, geophysics, geochemistry, astrophysics and related areas of particular value in the international exchange.
The Foundation does not grant scholarships in other areas such as, for example, economics, jurisprudence, marketing, advertising, design, architecture, history, theatre, dance, psychology, astronomy, zoology, archaeology and geology.
The qualified applications are divided into three subject areas: medical, technical and natural science. The applications are reviewed and assessed by the professor of the correspondent subject area followed by a Board meeting to agree on the assignment of scholarships.
Scholars
The holders of the Scholarships are mainly doctorands and younger doctors (doc or post doc studies) – exceptionally also master students – usually not older than 33 years. Childcare or particular personal circumstances may, however, qualify somewhat older persons to be considered.
Scholarships are not granted for basic academic studies. The scholarship is individual and not granted to groups or associations.
Reported delays in the studies/research are evaluated in each case and could be permitted for a maximum of one year. For a longer delay a new application has to me made.
Applications are granted under the condition that the scholar has not already been studying abroad for several years. Furthermore, the application should preferentially refer to a longer period, not a short visit, internship, assisting to a seminar, professional convention or similar. Finally, the scholarship could be granted to the same individual for a maximum of two periods, academic years or alike.

Cost/funding for participants
Scholarships
The Foundation annually grants a total of 3–4 million SEK in individual scholarships ranging from 50.000 to 170.000 SEK. The currency of the grant is SEK (Swedish krona).
The Scholarship aims to support personal expenses in connection with the studies, not institutional costs assumed to be covered by the receiving institution or by other means.
According to Swedish tax law, grants from the Foundation Blanceflor are not taxable income in Sweden. Each grant holder is advised to check the tax situation in the relevant other territory.
