Applicants come from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Students in any subject area are eligible to apply, if they demonstrate excellent school or academic merit, wish to study in Germany and are committed to the values of social democracy.

Programme Description
Scholarships are awarded to highly-performing students and include a comprehensive seminar programme to help enhance the candidates' social competences and academic skills. Individual support by an on-site liaison lecturer is another benefit of the sponsorship. Each year up to 40 students are awarded FES sponsorships. They are paid a monthly base amount of EUR 650. In addition, costs for health insurance are funded and, if applicable, also family- and child allowances.

Academic Requirements
Admission to study or enrolment at a state or state-recognized higher-education institution in Germany.

Scholarship Value
Foreign scholarship holders receive 830 euros per month (bachelor’s/diploma/magister/state exam) or 850 euros for the master’s and the costs for health insurance. We also offer a family allowance of 276 euros for scholarship holders with a child. The scholarship does not have to be repaid.
PhD
Scholarship holders receive 1,200 euros per month. The duration of the funding is two to a maximum of three years. In justified exceptional cases, funding can also be granted for longer than three years, but no longer than the time of the final examination.
