The Gary S.H. Lin Fellowship provides up to 24 months of funding to pursue master’s or doctoral study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and to participate in the educational, cultural, residential community building and leadership development programs at the East-West Center.
Undertaking degree studies at UHM through an East-West Center fellowship is not merely about receiving a financial aid scholarship. Since the basic purpose of the East-West Center is to build a sense of Asia-Pacific community and prepare for future leadership roles, EWC graduate student fellows live together and interact with each other in both intellectual and social activities. They are, from the very outset, an identifiable group committed to the notion of building an Asia-Pacific community. Through team-building activities, leadership development projects and internships, learning about the Asia Pacific region, cultural exchange, educational enrichment gatherings, community service and service learning projects, EWC graduate degree fellows establish friendships and lifelong ties to a network of people committed to positive change in the Asia Pacific region.
The fund provides awards for one or more students from Taiwan who have an outstanding academic record and financial need with a preference for MA students. Application Deadline: December 1.
Mr. Gary S.H. Lin was a degree scholarship awardee at the East-West Center from 1965 to 1967. After returning to Taiwan, he launched a successful career in information technology. Mr. Lin considers his experience at the East-West Center to have transformed his life, and hopes that his scholarship will contribute to the Center’s efforts to provide ambitious and promising students from Taiwan with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to promote the welfare of people around the world.
