Overview

The Model United Nations Society Göttingen e.V. (MUNSG) was established in 2005. A group of students decided to participate in the famous Harvard World MUN in Edinburgh and founded the society. Since then, the society has constantly evolved and was proud to organize their first GöMUN-conference in 2009.

Apart from planning and holding the conference, the society works closely together with the Department of Political Science of the Georg-August-University Göttingen. In our weekly meetings we debate in the modus of the UN and practice our speaking skills as well as learn about the code of conduct.

As a non-profit organization with the aim of improving international dialogue, the society also raises funds to offer financial support to its members, who wish to attend MUN-conferences, whenever possible.

End of an Era? Countering Conflict with Cooperation

A murmur is going round the sphere of international actors and observers: The paradigms that have shaped global dynamics for the past decades might have changed, what once was known to be true and effective might not be applicable anymore. Was the "most peaceful era of all times" a mere glitch in the system, are we slithering from poly-crises to a polycentric world order?

Much is at stake, and many questions seek answers. For that reason, we will once again come together in Göttingen to debate, to draft, and to dream about what our shared future might look like - and how we can shape the way towards that. GöMUN24 will offer you plenty of time to really dig deep into the topics that are of greatest concern to us right now. And if you're new to the game, we will make sure that you find your footing in the MUN community.

For newcomers and old hands alike, our conference is known for offering lunch and plenty of snacks during committee sessions and an extraordinary evening program with unforgettable social experiences. Stay tuned for updates!

Göttingen is a university town in Lower Saxony, Germany. The total population of Göttingen is about 120,000 of which more than 25.000 are students.

It is a lovely smaller German city known for its old university (Georgia Augusta, or „Georg-August-Universität“), which was founded in 1734 and became the most visited university of Europe. With 13 faculties the Georg-August-University is well represented in nearly all scientific disciplines. Also, more than 40 Nobel Prize winners are associated with its name.

Nearly untouched by Allied bombing in World War II, the inner city of Göttingen is now an attractive place to live with many shops, cafes and bars. For this reason, many university students live in the inner city which gives Göttingen a youthful feel.
