Overview
For the Hanns Seidel Foundation, assisting young and highly qualified foreign academics, especially from Third World countries, is an investment in the future with the aim of enabling the trained experts to play their part in the independent further development of their home countries so as to turn these into politically stable and economically strong partners for the entire world. The intention is to avoid conflicts between developing countries themselves and between developing countries and industrial nations and to play a role in paving the way to a peaceful coexistence of all nations on Earth on a political, economic and social level.

Scholarship Programmes – Talented Individuals Receive Support
Scholarship programmes enrich studies – and not just financially. More than 1,000 fellows receive a scholarship from the Institute for Scholarship Programmes. These scholarships consist of both conceptual and financial support. The aim is to contribute to the education of personally and academically qualified young academics and to reward outstanding scholarly achievements in doctoral programmes. Conceptual support here means participating in courses aimed at enabling fellows to critically and constructively contribute to the development of the democratic rule of law. Their political, professional, social and personal skills are primed, which should provide broader foundations for their future leadership capabilities. Those receiving a scholarship are chosen by a selection committee based on the combination of personality, performance and social engagement.
Recruiting of scholarship applicants
The project managers, in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation's partner organizations, pre-select promising candidates in the respective countries. This means that only applicants directly from the above mentioned projects or their immediate vicinity can be considered. Unfortunately, direct applications to the Hanns Seidel Foundation cannot be considered.
Scholarship duration
The duration of a scholarship is 3 to 12 months. Scholarships are granted for research projects, internships or the final phase of research studies or doctorates. In the case of doctorates, a 6 to 12 month scholarship within the scope of "sandwich programs" is possible.
