The International Summer Course is held in September immediately before the start of the Winter Semester and offers 4 weeks of instruction in the German language, with a focus on basic grammar, cultural background, text production and communicative skills.

The special character of the International Summer Course resides in its programme of individual mentoring. Not only does this approach help you to get acquainted with the University, but it also introduces you to the city of Giessen and everyday life in Giessen as well as its environs. The International Summer Course also runs trips to diverse places all over Germany as well as interactive workshops. At the end of the Summer Course, participants receive a certificate indicating the number of ECTS points (4) obtained.

THE CITY

The university town of Giessen is located in the heart of the Federal State of Hessen and is situated in the metropolitan region of Rhine-Main. With about 85,000 inhabitants and about 40,000 students, Giessen has the highest student density of all German university towns. Therefore, the city offers a wide range of cultural activities for students.Teaching and research, short distances, fast information and a diverse media landscape are the basis of the city’s cultural life. The open-mindedness, liberal attitude and internationality of Giessen are reflected in the city’s unique spectrum of activities.
