The Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) is implementing a NAM S&T Centre Research Fellowship scheme to provide the scientists and researchers of its member countries an opportunity to affiliate themselves with the scientific institutions located in another member country for upgrading their research skills, undertaking short-term joint projects, delivering lectures, developing linkages and establishing closer cooperation with the scientists/institutions in their fields of interest.


The duration of the fellowship may vary from a few weeks to a few months, depending upon the nature / plan of work and mutual agreement withthe host institution/country. Generally, the Fellowship is not provided for attending a workshop / training course


The filled in application forms duly endorsed by the Focal Points of the NAM S&T Centre in the respective member countries, along with the acceptance letter from the host institution should be submitted to the NAM S&T Centre. Names / contact addresses of the Focal Points of the Centre in various countries may be downloaded from the website of the NAM S&T Centre ( In case the name of the Focal Point is not available, the application should be endorsed through the Foreign Ministry or the Ministry / Government Agency dealing with science and technology in the country of the applicant.

A Statement of Purpose giving a brief write-up on the work to be carried out during the fellowship should be attached with the application.

Fellows will be selected on the basis of their professional details and the Plan of Work.

In matter of selection, the decision of the NAM S&T Centre shall be final.

Description of Ideal Candidate:


The applicant should hold at least M. Sc. or equivalent qualification and should be engaged in R&D or management of scientific programmes in any field of science and technology.

There is no upper age limit, but younger scientists will be preferred.

The applicant must already have in possession of an invitation letter from the proposed host institution with the undertaking that the institution will take care of the entire local hospitality expenses of the applicant during affiliation with the institution.

Selection will be based on merit and the scientific background of the applicant. 

Only one scientist / researcher will be accepted from a member country in any given financial year. [List of member countries is available in the Centre’s website]

Cost/funding for participants:

The selected scientist will be provided international airfare by the NAM S&T Centre for his/her travel to/from the host country.

All expenses including accommodation, meals, local transport and pocket expenses of the selected scientist during his/her stay in the host country are required to be borne by the hosts. Therefore an applicant to this Fellowship scheme should first establish contact with the prospective host agency/institution in another member country of the NAM S&T Centre and obtain an acceptance letter from them for his/her affiliation with them, which should clearly state the financial liability on the host agency/institution.
