Overview
The International Nuremberg Principles Academy offers an annual two-week intensive summer course for young professionals. Since 2019, in addition to the anglophone edition of the Nuremberg Summer Academy for Young Professionals, the Nuremberg Academy offers a francophone edition, the Académie d’été de Nuremberg pour jeunes professionnel.le.s.
The International Nuremberg Principles Academy is pleased to announce that applications for the eleventh edition of its Nuremberg Summer Academy are now open. Young lawyers, prosecutors, judges and academics are invited to apply to the 2026 anglophone edition which will be held in a hybrid format, comprising a self-paced online course from May to July 2026 and an in-person programme from 3 to 7 August 2026, in Nuremberg.

The Nuremberg Summer Academy is a flagship program of the Nuremberg Academy, fulfilling its mandate to promote tailored training programs aimed at building capacities and strengthening institutions at the national level to investigate and prosecute international crimes. The programme brings together young lawyers, prosecutors, judges, academics and other legal professionals from conflict and post-conflict countries with the aim to develop or deepen their knowledge of substantive and procedural aspects of international criminal law. Guided by leading international experts and practitioners, the participants acquire practical knowledge on the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of core international crimes.
Each year, the Nuremberg Summer Academy, an intensive summer course, provides young professionals with an invaluable opportunity and stimulating learning experience to acquire or deepen their knowledge of substantive and procedural aspects of international criminal law. Guided by leading international experts and practitioners, the participants will acquire practical knowledge on the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of core international crimes.
The programme will be held in a hybrid format. The programme will be divided into two parts: (1) a self-paced online course from May to July 2026 and (2) an in-person programme in August 2026.
The programme will be organised around one main case study. Lectures and self-study time will provide both an academic and practical perspective of international criminal law, while group assignments and interactive discussions will strengthen the candidates' learnt skills in practical assignments

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should be young professionals with a minimum of three years of professional experience as prosecutors, judges, lawyers, other legal professionals or academics at accredited universities working in disciplines related to international criminal law (e.g. human rights, criminal law, public international law and international humanitarian law);
- Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in law to be eligible. A Master’s degree in a discipline related to international criminal law is an added advantage;
- Applicants should possess a basic understanding of international criminal law and/or international humanitarian law;
- Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in applying or disseminating international criminal law in their professional life;
- Applicants should be proficient in spoken and written English;
- Applicants should be able to participate full time and should be available for the entire duration of the programme.

Cost/funding for participants
Fees and Scholarships
Participants are not required to pay any course fees.
The International Nuremberg Principles Academy provides full scholarships to all selected participants. Scholarships cover all costs including visa expenses, flights, travel and health insurance, full board and lodging, daily allowance, field trips and transportation.
Additionally, the Nuremberg Academy will provide financial assistance to selected participants who need support for the purchase of technical equipment (stable internet connection, camera, microphone, etc.) for purposes of the online course.
