Details

How much strength does it take to open the door to a prestigious university? How many hours of research, study, and experimentation are required to turn an idea into reality? How many miles does a scholar need to travel to achieve their goals?

Since 1978, the Onassis Foundation has supported more than 8,000 scientists and researchers through its Scholarship Program, shaping an impressive collective impact. Our scholars have opened more than 7,922 doors at some of the world’s leading universities; spent approximately 20,200,000 hours studying and conducting doctoral research; developed more than 5,000 collaborations with academics; traveled approximately 82,918 miles for their studies; and presented over 4,450 innovative ideas through academic papers and dissertations.

Now it is the turn of the next generation of scholars to make these numbers even greater.

The new call

Apply for the Onassis Foundation Scholarships for the academic year 2026–27.

Focused on the sciences of the future, each year the Onassis Foundation welcomes young people who work systematically to build a better society. With an eye on the future, the Onassis Foundation invests both in the sciences we already know and those yet to be widely known. From nanotechnology and bioinformatics to computational linguistics and data analytics, the Scholarship Program promotes knowledge, development, and innovation. By supporting the work of young scholars, it not only shapes their lives but also has a positive impact on society at large, providing solutions to global challenges. After completing their studies, the Onassis Foundation continues to support the scholars’ careers, strengthening and enhancing their professional development and networking through their active community of over 2,700 members, building new bridges for the future.
