Overview

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute is a leading hub for inter-disciplinary and policy-oriented human rights research and education. We have a global presence with offices and programmes covering more than 60 countries. And we have 30 years of experience advancing human rights in partnership with governments, national human rights institutions and universities.

Details

The objective of the Internship Programme of the Department of International Programmes is to give university students and recent graduates with a special interest in human rights issues the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the practical human rights work conducted by RWI in order to complement academic studies in this field and to gain practical work experience.

The internship period will generally be for 3-4 months but shorter periods might be considered.

What you can expect as an intern at the Department of International Programmes:

  • You will have the opportunity to experience human rights work in practice and increase your understanding of current human rights issues.
  • You will have the possibility to improve your ability to express yourself in writing and work independently and in a team.
  • You will have regular meetings with your supervisor for guidance and also work closely with programme officers/associates in relation to specific tasks.
  • Your assignments will depend on your specific background, the unit to which you will belong and the needs during the period which you will do your internship. Your internship will be related to a project that you will be able to follow and be a part of, but you will also be asked to do minor tasks.

Tasks may include:

  • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents
  • Compiling background information
  • Gender analysis
  • Developing case studies
  • Providing substantial and technical service to meetings or conferences
  • Translation
  • Researching human rights issues
  • Evaluation of projects
  • Preparing study visits
  • Context analysis

You will be asked to write a final report on your internship period and what you have achieved during this time to be submitted before you leave. The report will serve as an evaluation of your stay here and will help to improve our internship programme.

After completing the internship you will receive a certificate stating the period of the internship and tasks accomplished.

Please note that the internship is not intended to lead to future employment at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute.
