Overview

The Mises Institute, founded in 1982, teaches the scholarship of Austrian economics, freedom, and peace. The liberal intellectual tradition of Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973) and Murray N. Rothbard (1926-1995) guides us. Accordingly, we seek a profound and radical shift in the intellectual climate: away from statism and toward a private property order. We encourage critical historical research, and stand against political correctness. The institute serves students, academics, business leaders, and anyone seeking better understanding of the Austrian school of economics and libertarian political theory.

Details

Rothbard Graduate Seminar is an intense study of Misesian and Rothbardian economic analysis with applications to current research and related fields. Participants discuss a common set of readings with each other and Mises Institute faculty, who give advanced lectures on the material.

In honor of Murray N. Rothbard’s 100th birthday, this year’s RGS will discuss his Science of Liberty, an integrated system of complete political economy. The Science of Liberty, in stark contrast to mainstream political economy, rests on the axiomatic-deductive disciplines of economics and ethics and encompasses systematic empirical illustrations of liberty and government intervention and a comprehensive strategy for achieving liberty in the real world. The core text for RGS 2026 is Economic Controversies. The text will be supplemented by selected readings from some of Rothbard’s other works such as The Ethics of Liberty and Strictly Confidential: The Private Volker Fund Memos of Murray N. Rothbard

Welcoming remarks and discussions take place over dinner Sunday, June 7. Sessions begin Monday morning, June 8, and end Friday afternoon, June 12.

The core text for RGS 2026 will be announced soon.
