Overview

Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) is an international research-led university located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. SIT’s mission is to provide research, knowledge and education in three broad areas of advanced technology: Software (Distributed Crypto Architectures, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence); Physics (Quantum Technology, New Materials); and Digital Transformation (Digital Health, Digital Sport, Digital Law). SIT offers a wide range of scholarships in cooperation with partners companies to support talented students in their education and future career.

Details

The SIT MSc CS-SE program is split into three distinct learning areas; technical skills, product management skills and leadership skills. Within these areas, you can expect to embark on specialist modules that are focused on fascinating subject areas — think holistic cyber security, tribe leadership, deep learning, AI and decision science, among others.

Alongside traditional modules, there is an opportunity to complete a capstone project with one of SIT's industrial partners. You'll work with academic advisors to develop a commercialization project and really get to grips with how to apply your technical intellect in industry.

A complete breakdown of the curriculum can be found in the course brochure.

How long is the degree?

The course follows a traditional MSc framework — this includes two years of study, which meet the standard Bologna European system of higher education. The classic program will be completed entirely at SIT, but there is also an option to choose a combined degree in which your second year of study will be at a partner institute, the National University of Singapore or Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA. You don't necessarily have to move to these universities, this can be completed online.

There is also a fast-lane option available for very talented students. This track allows you to work on your thesis during the second and third semester. It's hard work, but this will allow you to complete the master's program in three semesters, rather than four.

Why should I choose SIT, as opposed to an established university?

Traditional technical education isn't preparing students for technical careers. SIT's network of industrial partners has experienced this first-hand and with the SIT MSc CS-SE program, we're determined to change this.

Unlike other institutes, SIT provides direct pathways into a lucrative technology career. Schaffhausen itself is a technological hotspot, boasting the headquarters of several major software and IT organisations. You won't get this level of industry connections anywhere else.

To create the next generation of scientific leaders, you need to learn from the existing ones. That's why you should choose SIT.

What are my future career prospects?

Our graduates will access careers in technical management and leadership, including Chief Architect (CA), Chief Product Officer (CPO), Chief Development Officer (CDO), and Chief Security Officer (CSO).

We encourage an entrepreneurial spirit in our students and encourage graduates to consider launching a startup or enterprise of their own. Put simply, this program isn't for those willing to settle. At SIT, we're looking for ambition.
