What is it about?
The Elisabeth & Amélie Fund (EAF) promotes sustainable water management in countries of the Global South by awarding scholarships to students from the Global South who are studying in Belgium.
These scholarships provide an opportunity to gain field experience as part of their studies or research and to contribute to sustainable solutions for water management.
The Fund supports an integrated approach to water management, encompassing both technical and societal dimensions.
The internship takes place in a country of the Global South, either in the student’s country of origin or in another country. It forms part of a master’s thesis or a master’s project worth at least 15 ECTS credits and is carried out under the responsibility of the Belgian academic institution where the student is enrolled.

Who is it for?
For students from the Global South who are pursuing a master's level programme in Belgium (master's degree, advanced master's degree, or advanced bachelor's degree) and who are carrying out a thesis or project as part of their studies focusing on sustainable water management in a country of the Global South.
Selection criteria
- Objective. The internship is linked to the access to water or its management in developing countries and must be clearly part of the subject of the candidate’s end of year project.
- Pertinence. The work undertaken by the candidate at local level and the results that emanate from this, deal with important local issues.
- Capabilities. The budget requested must match the candidate’s needs. He/She must have sufficient resources to complete the internship under the required conditions.
- Originality. The approach chosen by the candidate for his internship or the framework within which he is going to work have an innovative side. They are, in a certain way, different from the usual approaches or frameworks.
- Impact. What will be realized during the internship brings real added value to the scientific approach that supports the end of year thesis.

Deadline: October 20, 2026
Cost/funding for participants
The scholarship covers internship-related expenses up to a maximum of €5,000.
The internship lasts between one and two months and takes place between January and the end of August 2027. Around ten scholarships are awarded each year.
