Overview

The Take 10 Volunteer programme is an action-based, fast-paced travel, study and project programme for people who would like to be international volunteers. Before going to the projects, volunteers are trained for three months at learning centres in Europe. After completing their training, volunteers participate actively and constructively in creating positive change in developing communities in Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia or India, for six months. A one month evaluation period concludes the programme.

Details

The Take 10 Volunteer program is fast-paced international volunteer program, that prepares and connects volunteers to community-based development projects in Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and India.

The first three months of the program are the Training Period, carried out in one of three learning centers - namely One World Center Denmark, One World Institute Norway and College for International Cooperation and Development England.

The next six months are the Project Period, where the volunteers will be assigned a position in an established Humana People to People Development Project. There, volunteers work alongside local project leaders and partners on projects focusing on Health, Education, Community Development and/or Environment.

The third and last period is the Conclusion and Information Period, where the volunteers reflect on their training and project work. They also share their experiences through awareness campaigns about the impact of the projects as well as about volunteering opportunities.

What is expected from volunteers?

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are ready to leave your home for 10 months to volunteer in a community environment 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • You have decided not to drink alcohol or take drugs for the entirety of the program.
  • You are eager to experience a multidisciplinary and collective training program, which includes theoretical and practical activities.
  • You are ready to immerse yourself in a multicultural and diverse community.
  • You are ready to volunteer where you are most needed.
  • You look forward to engaging with the Humana People to People projects in a spirit of cooperation, mutual learning, and respect.
  • You are committed to learn about people, cultures, values and traditions, and to share your knowledge and stories with the public after your travels.

What does the program offer?

The program offers many new experiences including self-discovery and development, teamwork, traveling and exploring new cultures, many new acquaintances and friendships. You will broaden your horizon and improve your communication and teamwork skills while learning new things and improving already established competencies. All of this will happen in a friendly and understanding environment where mutual respect is a requirement.

Furthermore, the volunteering period (6 months) is fully funded by our project partner, Humana People to People. This means that it covers expenses regarding:

  • Return travel to the project destination
  • Traveler’s health insurance for the project destination
  • Visa for the project destination
  • Necessary travel vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis for the project destination
  • Accommodation
  • 150USD($) monthly allowance for food expenses

What the volunteer needs to cover him/herself is the training expenses at the learning center which costs €2,700.

Those expenses cover the volunteer’s basic expenses for the four months at the learning center, which includes accommodation in a shared room, three meals a day and team program expenses such as books, films, sports equipment, stationery, field trips, etc.

It is needed because in order to have qualified volunteers who have relevant knowledge and understanding about development work, Humana People to People demands that prospective volunteers go through a 3-month preparation period prior to arriving at the projects. This will ensure you will be well-prepared for your project and you will be able to contribute accordingly.

Cost/funding for participants

The project period (6 months) of the programme is fully funded by our partner - Humana People To People.

However, the projects only accept volunteers with proper prepartion and training who have a vast knowledge about what they will be working with. This is the only way our partners can be sure that project will be beneficial. For this reason, there is a 3 months training and prepartion period at one of our learning centers in Denmark, Norway or England. Volunteers are expected to cover the costs of accomodation, food, and learning materials for the three months which are 2700 Euro.
