Overview
By providing annual grants to scholars and artists, the Culture & Animals Foundation (CAF) aims to appeal to individual intellect, creativity, and compassion, and build a deeper understanding of human–animal relationships and a greater respect for animal rights.
Details
Our work stems from the scholarship, passion, and commitment of renowned philosopher Tom Regan (1938–2017), who with his wife, Nancy, created CAF in 1985. You can read about the history of our organization, learn about the life and work of Tom Regan, and meet our current and former grantees.
The Foundation funds academic and artistic projects that raise public awareness about concern for animals, awarding grants in three categories:
- Research (scholarly projects about animal advocacy and its cultural roots and impact);
- Creativity (original work by artists and thinkers that expresses positive concern for animals); and
- Performance (public performances and exhibitions to raise awareness of animal advocacy).
Preference is given to applicants who do not depend on other sources of external funding.
