Overview
The Muirhead Trust c/o Franchi Law LLP, Solicitors, was set up through the Testamentary Writings of Henry Muirhead (who died in 1890) and it was later incorporated by Statute under the Muirhead Trust Confirmation Order Act of 1910.
Details
The Trust provides solely for female students who are of Scottish origin and almost entirely for those who are studying in Scotland. The late Henry Muirhead considered that a disproportionately small share of quality scientific and medical education was open to females and he bequeathed the bulk of his estate in an attempt to redress this inequality.
Consequently the Trust benefits aspiring medical practitioners, veterinary medical practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, scientists and engineers.
