Overview

The Graduate Study Programme (GSP) at UN Geneva is the longest-running educational initiative of the United Nations, now in its 63rd year. Over the past 62 years, more than 3,000 young people from 110 countries have successfully completed the Programme. This intensive two-week summer seminar provides an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of the United Nations and “International Geneva” through lectures, research, work in groups, visits to institutions, and networking.

64th GRADUATE STUDY PROGRAMME

The 64th Graduate Study Programme (GSP) will be held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland from 29 June to 10 July 2026, under the theme AI and Emerging Technologies: Realities, Risks and Opportunities”. This intensive two-week summer seminar will consist of lectures, presentations, work in groups, and visits to institutions, with the objective of providing students with insights into the work of the United Nations and "International Geneva" in the rapidly evolving field of AI and new technologies. 

The seminar is open to all currently enrolled graduate students, age 22-32, who are not employed full time and who are fluent in both written and spoken English. The applicants will be screened on the basis of their academic success, extracurricular or professional activities, motivation statements, and recommendation letters. Every effort will be made to ensure equitable gender and regional representation. Decisions by the Selection Committee are final, and no individual feedback will be provided, given the large volume of applications.

The application process is open from 5 December 2025 until 20 February 2026 (12 noon Geneva time). Applications by candidates who do not meet the criteria, late or incomplete applications will not be considered. All applicants will be informed of the results in the first week of April 2026.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Participants will form working groups to study issues related to the various dimensions of this theme, under the guidance of United Nations experts. They will be provided with selected documents and publications on the theme under discussion.

Important: language requirements for the GSP:

The majority of the sessions will be held in English, therefore absolute fluency in English is essential. As several sessions will be held in French, solid working knowledge of French is also required.

Applicants must be between 22 and 32 years of age at the time of application.

Cost/funding for participants

  • Participation in the programme is free. 
  • The United Nations does not make any financial contribution towards the travel costs and residential expenses of participants. 
  • Governments or universities may offer grants to selected candidates.
  • Candidates should seek advice from their universities on this point.
