Overview

Explore and implement self-care and mental wellbeing strategies when working in peacebuilding.

Details

Considering recent conflicts and increased uncertainty in the social and political spheres globally, peacebuilding and human rights-related work is increasingly demanded and essential. This work includes highly wearing tasks, both physically and mentally. This course aims to explore strategies on how to deal with the strain of this work to stay mentally well, and to take care of ourselves in order to be able to take care of others. Additionally, participants will learn basic psychosocial support tools with a do no harm approach.

As a participant, you will:  

  • Understand key concepts in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) within peacebuilding and human rights work;
  • Explore local methodologies for psychosocial support and self-care;
  • Reflect on potential self-care strategies;
  • Learn about the concept of trauma and its effects, individually and collectively;
  • Learn basic tools on how to identify and work in environments where persons may have experienced trauma;
  • Exchange experiences and become part of a community of practice.
