Overview

The Government of Mexico is offering several scholarships for international students. These scholarships are available for pursuing a specialisation, master’s, or doctoral degree, conducting postgraduate or postdoctoral research, or participating in an academic mobility programme at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Details

Scholarships to study in Mexico are offered to students from over 180 countries through a series of bilateral conventions, multilateral programs, and special agreements. This edition features participation from more than 80 Mexican higher education institutions, all offering academic programs registered with the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) as National Quality Postgraduate Programs. These programs showcase the progress Mexico has made in the sciences and humanities.

By awarding scholarships to international students, Mexico strengthens its role as a globally responsible actor and reaffirms its commitment to cooperation programs that contribute to the creation of highly qualified human capital.

The presence of international students, academics, and scientists in Mexico helps build lasting bridges of dialogue, enriching the long-term foreign policy agenda with contributions of exceptional value for both the country and its international partners. Conditions for Participants:

  1. Eligibility:

    • Scholarships are available for pursuing a specialisation, master’s, or doctoral degree, conducting postgraduate or postdoctoral research, or participating in an academic mobility program at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

  2. Field of Study:

    • Scholarships are offered for any courses available at participating Mexican institutions, with the exception of business administration, plastic surgery, accounting, marketing, dentistry, and advertising.

  3. Residency Requirement:

    • Applicants must not be residing in Mexico at the time of application.

  4. Start Dates:

    • Except in special cases, scholarships cannot begin in November or December.

  5. Language Requirements:

    • All documents and forms must be submitted in Spanish or accompanied by translations into Spanish.

  6. Notification of Results:

    • Candidates will be informed of the results through the relevant Mexican embassy or the designated Mexican institution.

  7. Non-Transferability:

    • Scholarships are non-transferable and cannot be deferred to future years.

Cost/funding for participants

Scholarship Benefits:

  1. Monthly Stipend:

    • For mobility scholarships at the undergraduate, specialisation, master’s, or research stay (master’s level): A monthly maintenance allowance equivalent to 4 times the current value of the Unidad de Medida y Actualización (UMA), currently $13,202.12 MXN per month.

    • For doctoral scholarships, doctoral and postdoctoral research stays, and medical specialisations or subspecialisations: A monthly maintenance allowance equivalent to 5 times the current value of the UMA, currently $16,502.65 MXN per month.

  2. Tuition Fees:

    • Coverage of registration and tuition fees, as per the specific program of each Mexican educational institution.

  3. Health Insurance:

    • Medical insurance provided through the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

  4. Visa Fee Exemption:

    • Waiver of the fee for the issuance of a Mexican visa.

  5. International Airfare:

    • Return economy-class airfare upon successful completion of the scholarship program. The ticket will be issued based on the most convenient flight route determined by AMEXCID. Refer to the list of countries eligible for this benefit (Annex 3).
