Overview

BI Norwegian Business School offers a three week long Summer School from 24 June to 12 July 2024.

Details

ABOUT SUMMER SCHOOL

  • Two courses at the bachelor level (7.5 ECTS) and the possibility to take two bachelor courses (7.5 + 7.5 = 15 ECTS) over four weeks
  • Lectures by highly qualified BI faculty members
  • Insight into Norwegian industries through guest lectures
  • Social and cultural activities - guided tours, sightseeing and outdoor activities (for example hiking & barbecues)  

Courses

At our Summer School at BI you can choose one course from the following disciplines: Sustainability or Data Science.

Sustainability

As our world faces increasing environmental and social challenges, having a background in sustainability will equip you with the skills to address emerging issues. Norway actively participates in international efforts related to sustainability, climate change, and environmental protection and is often recognized as a leader in sustainability.

Data Science

Data Science skills are increasingly valuable for students from a variety of educational disciplines. Studying courses within Data Science will give you a competitive edge, help you to understand trends and patterns in a data driven world and lead to more informed and evidence-based decisions.

Social activities

The social programme ranges from adventures into Norway’s beautiful and wild nature, opportunities to get acquainted with the urban diversity of the city of Oslo, cultural excursions to museums, sightseeing tours, social barbeques at the beach and fun gatherings for every taste. Our Arrival Service and Orientation events will make it easy to find your way around the city and lead to friendships from the beginning on.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

All applicants need to attach the following documents to their online application

  • 1 page motivation letter stating why you would like to attend the BI summer programme
  • Recent official transcripts from university education (if not in English, an official translation must be submitted with the transcript in its original language)
  • Copy of your passport, showing personal data and photo
  • Non-native English speakers need to provide documentation of English language skills. This does not have to be an official language test (TOEFL/IELTS), but can also be a document from your university stating that you have taken university/college courses in English.

Students from BI partner institutions must either:

  • a) provide a nomination letter from your home university, or the International Office of the home university has to send an official nomination to summer@bi.no - in order to obtain a tuition fee waiver. 

Or

  • b) provide documentation of current study status at the given partner school - in order to obtain a 30% tuition fee waiver. This requirement can be fulfilled by submitting your transcript which will state the name of the partner university.

Applicants from non-partner institutions

  • Applicants from non-partner institutions are categorised as Free movers. They do not need to provide any further documentation than listed above and have to pay the full tuition fee. See more under Fees & Accommodation.

Incomplete applications

  • If any supporting documents are unavailable when you submit the online application, these can be sent by email to info@bi.no, subject "Summer School at BI". Please make sure additional supporting documents are submitted by the application deadline.
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed, and it is your responsibility to provide us with the necessary documentation by 15 May 2024.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Admission criteria

  • Completed a minimum of one year of university education by the start of the Summer School (24 June 2024)
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor/undergraduate programme at university level. You will need to proof this by uploading a current transcript from your home university.
  • Non-native English speakers need documentation of English language skills. This does not have to be an official language test (TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo), but can also be your transcript showing that you have taken courses in English or a separate document from your university confirming English language skills.

Fees 2024

Each student category comes with its own set of fees, so it's important to be aware of which category you fall into before proceeding.

  • Nominated students from partner universities will receive a tuition fee waiver. Other fees and expenses still apply. Please get in touch with the International Office at your home university if you are unsure if you can be nominated.
  • Fee paying students: We welcome international students from inside and outside the EU as well as local students from other institutions in Norway. If you are a fee-paying student from one of our partner universities, you will automatically receive a 10% discount on the tuition fee.

The total programme fee includes:

  • Lectures, course materials and exams
  • Access to our library and reading areas
  • Wifi on campus
  • All social and cultural activities organized by the BI Summer School team
