Overview

Cannes Lions: The International Festival of Creativity - has been championing creative excellence since 1954 with the goal of providing a global destination and the definitive benchmark for creativity that drives progress.

At Cannes Lions, the advertising and communications industry meets to celebrate the world's best work. Insight from iconic thought leaders, ideas from the world's most innovative companies, and inspiration from every corner of the creative marketing community come together at the Festival – for a week of world-class networking, learning, and history-making creativity.

Every year in June, Cannes Lions brings the creative community together for a week in Cannes, France – to learn, network, explore and celebrate creativity in advertising and communications.

Taking place from 17–21 June 2024, the Festival is where the world’s greatest creativity gets its moment in the spotlight. It’s where groundbreaking work from across the globe is awarded, and where today’s most influential thought leaders and industry titans come together on stage – from Malala Yousafzai to David Droga.

With unrivalled networking opportunities, the Festival brings together creative minds from around the world. Ensuring every delegate – whether experienced or still in the making – can collaborate, share ideas, and progress through creativity.

Why it matters.

Though the definition of creativity changes all the time: it undeniably drives progress for people, business and society. Cannes Lions celebrates, facilitates, and substantiates creativity in all its forms – helping to prove its effectiveness, shape its future, and connect the future leaders of the industry.

Who comes, speaks and wins?

We interrogate the methodologies, approaches and achievements of all types of companies: from tiny start-ups to huge multi-nationals. Anyone with original ideas can enter speaking submissions or awards entries, but only the bravest – and most effective – will make it on to the stage.

The eight big themes for Cannes Lions 2024 revealed. Over 900 leading industry experts have shared their concerns, insights and visions for the future of creative marketing communications to help us shape the key themes for the 2024 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity…

  • Proving creative effectiveness: In a world of big data and shiny tech, how and why does the 'Big Idea' matter? Does efficiency mean effectiveness? How do you marry creativity with commercial results? Are we still selling creativity short?
  • Being inclusive and embracing equality and diversity: Hear original and credible perspectives from diversity champions about how to create fair and equal workforces. What are the new benchmarks for brand work that promotes diversity and inclusion? And what are the wider benefits for culture and society?
  • Exploiting the changes sweeping our industry: We'll explore the deep structural changes and shifts to the branded communication landscape. How can we build outstanding creative capabilities, whatever workspace we inhabit? And where will the best talent be in two, five or ten years time?
  • Winning in a digital economy: Hear case studies from some of the world's largest brands. How are they transforming to maintain customer relevance? What does best-in-class digital transformation look like? How can you marry technology and creativity to create customer-centric communications?
  • Creative strategy: Understand the ideas behind the idea. Hear from strategists, psychologists, futurists and behavioural economists. They'll share the human insights that have changed how we think about targeting, personalisation and reach. Can creativity solve fundamental business problems?
  • Using creativity as a force for good: See the breakthrough work inspiring positive action and change in an uncertain and stormy world. How can creativity drive lasting cultural change? Do consumers expect brands to fill the void left by politicians? Should brands today pick a side?
  • Story-telling, creating experiences, and beautiful craft: Dive into how to develop long-lasting consumer engagement in the age of fast content and fads. What does the new customer value exchange look like? How can you create consistency across touchpoints and provide rich consumer journeys in the 'age of me'?
  • Trust, ethics and transparency: What can we do to restore trust? Which brands are already doing this well? What can we learn from new challenger brands whose entire ethos – from material, product development, supply chain and advertising – is sustainably set up.

What to expect

For 2024 and beyond, Cannes Lions will provide an annual forum for the global industry to address the most pressing issues the industry and the world are facing today.

Right now, sustainability is top of mind for us – as it is for the industry – and we're committed to putting a sustainability agenda in place. You can expect us to deliver our most sustainable festival in history.
