Overview

Are you considering a career in international affairs in the future, and would you like to learn (more) about it? Located in Geneva, the world capital of diplomacy, the GSD Summer School in International Relations offers participants a unique exposure to the life of a diplomat solving issues at an international level.

Details

During the week, participants will engage with peers from different cultural backgrounds and learn from the real-world diplomatic experience of the GSD renowned faculty through dynamic and interactive learning activities. During the programme, participants will discuss compelling and inspiring topics of diplomacy and international relations, visit some of the major international organizations in Geneva, and engage in interesting workshops.

GSD Summer School, designed for international students from 15 to 18 years, will help participants prepare for a professional future and develop a more global understanding of the complex issues of diplomacy in the 21st century. The language of instruction is English.

Program aim

The programme provides students with the opportunity to experience how global affairs are managed on a daily basis, meet with students from all over the world and make contacts for future internships and career opportunities. The curriculum aims at providing participants with an understanding of the world of international affairs.

Sessions and visits

DELIVERY OF COURSES AND VISITS

The individual courses will take place in two 1.5 hour sessions per day for one week from 09h30 to 12h30. In the afternoons, participants will visit some international organizations, diplomatic missions, government agencies, and NGOs apart from engaging in interesting workshops and exercises.

ORGANIZATION VISITS

Participants will get inspired by guided visits to international organizations such as:*

  1. the United Nations (UN),
  2. the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR),
  3. the World Trade Organization (WHO),
  4. the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
  5. the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

* Minor last minute changes in the topics and visits might occur.

CERTIFICATION

Students who successfully complete a summer school programme will receive a GSD certificate of completion.

Geneva is a beautiful city full of mystery and places to discover. Nevertheless, at the start, it can be difficult to know where to go. For this reason, we have created a list with activities and places to visit in the city of Calvin so you can enjoy your stay to the fullest.

When your child is participating in our Summer School, parents will have plenty of time to visit Geneva. We have created a guide for accompanying parents in order to help you with what to do & where to go. Description of Ideal Candidate

The Summer School, taught in English, is designed for students from 15 to 20 years old who are interested in pursuing undergraduate studies in areas of political science, international relations and the political economy.

Cost/funding for participants

REGISTRATION

To register for the five days Summer School in International Relations, there is a CHF 100,- registration fee (this is non-refundable). The tuition fee for the full week of Summer School is CHF 1.450,-. Your registration will be complete once the payment has been confirmed by GSD. The tuition fee does not include travel costs, accommodation or other living expenses in Geneva. Your place will be reserved upon receipt of your payment.
