Greifswald Summer combines four weeks of intensive German lessons at various levels of proficiency and workshops with a wide range of cultural events and excursions. Improve your German language skills and spend an informative and exciting time with us!
Greifswald Summer in Detail
- 25 hours of German lessons per week for beginners at A1 or A2 level, for advanced learners at B1 or B2 as well as C1 and C2 level with workshops to choose from that provide you with an opportunity to put your German skills into practice.
- Cultural programme and excursions in and around Greifswald and in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
- Greifswald Buddies will immerse themselves in local student life with you
Which Language Courses Are on Offer?
We offer courses at A1 and A2 level for beginners, B1 and B2 level for advanced learners as well as at C1 and C2 level. The levels are based on the European Framework of Reference. You will receive a total of 100 hours of German lessons.
The German courses take place in the mornings from 08:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the seminar rooms on the Loefflerstraße campus at Ernst-Lohmeyer-Platz 3. Learning materials will be provided. On the last Friday of the programme, you can determine your current progress by taking a test. After your participation, you will receive a certificate attesting to your test result and the ECTS points you have received. To receive the full 6 ECTS points, regular participation in the language course (5 ECTS) and the chosen workshop (1 ECTS) is required.
How can I apply?
Applications for Greifswald Summer 2024 are possible from 1 February to 30 April 2024. You can only apply via our online application form, which you can find on this website from 1 February.

Who can apply?
Perhaps you would like to take up studies at the University of Greifswald and get to know the university and city beforehand? Perhaps you want to improve your German before or during your time in Greifswald? Or are you simply interested in the language and culture? Then you have come to the right place!
Please note that you have to be at least 18 years old to take part in Greifswald Summer - Exception: selected pupils from PASCH schools.
For the purpose of strengthening the partnership relations of the University of Greifswald, applicants from partner institutions will be given preference.

Cost/funding for participants
Programme Costs
The price for participation in the Greifswald Summer is € 500.00. The programme costs include participation in the German courses and workshops as well as the cultural programme and the Wednesday excursions.
Please bear in mind that you will have to plan for additional costs for accommodation, food, transport, etc.
Optional Expenses
Besides the course programme, there are additional components that you can book directly via the application form. While a dormitory room can only be booked with the course application, it is still possible to book weekend excursions after the programme has started.
