Overview

Our mission is to transform the lives of youth worldwide at scale who are currently in marginalized situations and enable them to make a positive impact in all aspects of human endeavor. Candidates for the program receive a host of leadership, academic, and professional development resources through a tiered application structure that reaches thousands of students globally. Over 16,000 students from 120 countries applied for the Aspire Leaders Program in 2024.

Details

Students access self-assessment tools, Harvard course materials, and developmental feedback. Through a global and intellectual community, participants interact directly with world-class faculty and a global community of peers as they grapple with questions of identity, technology, ethics, and structural change.

Aspire’s multi-stage program offers a host of benefits to thousands of applicants.

These include:

For participants in stages 1-3:

  1. Machine-learning-based skills assessment and recommendations for improvement
  2. Fully-funded HarvardX courses
  3. Live, interactive sessions featuring senior faculty from Harvard and other leading institutions worldwide from a range of disciplinary backgrounds

Stage 4:

Aspire Institute will invite a selection of participants to apply for stage 5. These students will partake in a career development course and compile an application that includes:

  1. Two letters of recommendation
  2. Academic transcript
  3. Video interview
  4. Personal Statement

Stage 5, immersive learning:

  1. Intensive final cohort program with case-study-based curricula
  2. Extended Leadership Opportunities (ELOs)

Experimental pedagogical approaches and innovative uses of technology bring together faculty members across disciplines and students from all around the globe, creating a novel global and interdisciplinary classroom.

Once accepted to the Aspire Leaders Program, students will continue through a multi-stage selection process, culminating in the finalist program, delivered virtually. This occurs 4-5 months after the application deadline.

The Aspire alumni network is a dynamic and diverse group spanning countries around the world. Membership in this group provides access to regional cohorts, affinity networks, and a lifelong community of peers and educators around the world.

What are the eligibility requirements for this program?

This program is for students who are from backgrounds of social and financial adversity. All applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • First-generation to attend university, meaning their parents did not complete an undergraduate degree
  • Low-income background
  • Ages 18-26
  • Current undergraduate students or recent graduates
  • OR students impacted by armed conflict and/or a natural disaster

If one of my parents completed an undergraduate or graduate degree, do I qualify?

No, this program is for first-in-family/first-generation to university students.
