The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations. The work of the International Trade Centre is focused on delivering ‘Export Impact for Good’. We target the private sector, trade support institutions and the promotion of government policies which contribute to competitive trade and sustainable and inclusive development. We support developing and transition countries in seeking out and promoting export opportunities – leading to economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction. OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The objectives of the Internship Programme are:

  • To promote, among participating students, a better understanding of trade promotion issues at the international level.
  • To offer interns an opportunity to develop their personal competencies working in an international environment.
  • To provide various Divisions at the International Trade Centre (ITC) with the assistance and enthusiasm of outstanding young students studying in a relevant technical field such as economics, trade promotion and development, human resources and statistics.

INTERNSHIP LENGTH

ITC Internships are offered year round.

  • Internships in ITC may be for a period of between two (minimum) and eight (maximum) months. The initial period of an internship is normally three to four months. The internship may be extended in agreement between ITC and the intern up to a maximum period of eight months.
  • The ITC Internship Programme is full-time work in the Division which has selected the intern, carrying out the assignment under the supervision of a professional staff member.

An internship may be terminated or the internship period reduced at any time by ITC if this is deemed to be in the interests of either the organisation or the intern.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Applicants are enrolled in a higher/master degreegranting programme in a recognized university or graduate school at the time of application and during the internship. If pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, applicants must have completed at least four years of fulltime studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Applicants should have good working knowledge of English or French.

Cost/funding for participants

Interns are not paid. The costs of travel, personal insurance and accommodation, as well as living expenses, are the responsibility of interns.

Interns are responsible for obtaining the necessary entry visa and arranging their travel to Geneva.

TC accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness during the internship.
