About us

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a political foundation, inspired by Christian democratic values, committed to fostering democracy and the rule of law, to implementing social and market-economic structures and to promoting human rights in Europe and worldwide. In line with these principles, our Foundation awards scholarships to international master students and graduates in order to enable study and research at universities in Germany. This way, we actively promote intercultural dialogues, the formation of international networks as well as the internationalization of universities and science.

After finishing their studies in Germany, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung expects its former scholars to contribute actively to the development of their home country’s relations with the Federal Republic of Germany.

Eligibility

Candidates should be from:

Description of Ideal Candidate

Eligible to apply are:

  • Students of all disciplines who meet the requirements of § 8 BAföG in terms of their nationality and who are regular students at state/state-recognized German scientific universities, at pedagogical universities, at universities for fine arts and music, at the Fernuniversität Hagen (full-time only -Students), are enrolled at universities of applied sciences (universities that are funded in accordance with the State Higher Education Act) and at universities in other European countries (EU countries and Switzerland) or will start their studies in the next possible semester after the application deadline;
  • as applicants for the promotion of young journalists (JONA): students of all disciplines; it is recommended to apply by the 4th semester (Bachelor/state examination).

Only those students who have had the opportunity to participate in the non-material support program for at least two years can be selected. This means that applicants who reach the maximum funding period according to BAföG in less than four semesters cannot be considered. In the case of several courses completed at the same time, the number of semesters of the course in which the course is most advanced counts.

  • Applications from students pursuing a bachelor's degree must therefore be submitted at a time when at least four semesters of standard study time remain; however, a master's degree directly following the bachelor's degree can be included in this calculation. Applications exclusively for the funding of a master's program must be submitted before the start of the four-semester course. An application for the promotion of young journalists (JONA) is no longer possible for a master’s degree.
  • Students who are studying outside of Germany, the EU countries or Switzerland immediately after the next possible start of funding, or who are doing an internship or their studies from the very beginning and entirely there, cannot be considered (see studying abroad).
  • Students on a second degree who already have a university exam qualifying them for a job are not included in the group of applicants. On the other hand, students on a second degree who have obtained the general higher education entrance qualification through a degree from a university of applied sciences are taken into account.
  • Applicants who have reached the age limit of 35 by the next possible start of funding are excluded from the application.
  • Dual degree programs can be funded if the degree is completed full-time at a state or state-recognized university. The latter must be proven with the help of the enrollment certificate.
  • Funding is excluded if another activity takes up most of the student’s work (19 hours or more per week).
  • Simultaneous financial support from the KAS and other institutions is not possible.
