Kühne Logistics University is the logistics management school in Germany, offering management and leadership skills you need to launch your professional career. Based in Hamburg, one of Germany’s largest cities, Kühne Logistics University serves as a gateway to some of the world’s best-known and successful firms.

Details

KLU offers a limited number of merit-based scholarships for exceptional applicants for our BSc and MSc programs. Successful applicants may receive a particle, or in outstanding cases, a full scholarship. As part of the KLU family, scholarship recipients commit to being in the Student Ambassador Program.

Please note that at KLU, internal scholarships and bursaries are issued for the whole course of studies need to be settled before commencement of studies. KLU’s budgeting support for tuition goes by the annual intake and offers no scheme for students already on the program.

ABOUT KLU

Kühne Logistics University – Wissenschaftliche Hochschule für Logistik und Unternehmensführung (KLU) – is a private university located in Hamburg’s HafenCity. KLU is one of very few private universities in Germany entitled to confer their own PhDs.

The independent, state-certified university’s major research areas are Sustainability, Digital Transformation and Value Creation in the fields of Transport, Global Logistics, and Supply Chain Management. 2020 KLU celebrates its 10th anniversary under the motto "10 years of award-winning teaching and research".

The 2019 ranking of the Wirtschaftswoche identifies KLU as one of the strongest research universities in the field of Business Administration in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Out of 200 competing universities, KLU reaches the top 20 in the overall ranking and scores No. 2 among all private universities. In terms of research-output per professor, KLU faculty is ranked No. 7 in the overall ranking and No. 1 of all private universities. With one BSc and three MSc degree programs, a structured doctoral program, and a part-time MBA, KLU offers its 400 full-time students a high level of specialization and excellent learning conditions. KLU has an international team of 24 professors who teach in English. In open, tailor-made management seminar series, industry specialists and managers alike benefit from the application of academic findings to practical issues.

Description of Ideal Candidate

Requirements KLU merit-based scholarships:

  • Completed application for a KLU study program (BSc/MSc; incomplete applications, or applications from international applicants (non-EU) still owing the application fee will not be considered), please see our FAQ for more information.
  • Minimum academic performance of 2.0 overall GPA (GPA: German equivalent; if you are unsure how to convert your international grade and are already admitted for a place of study at KLU, you may inquire with us whether you fulfill the GPA criterion).
  • Completed scholarship application form, identifying the scholarship you wish to apply for, and additional information when relevant.
  • All applicants must include either an essay (max. 2000 characters, not including spaces), or a video (max. 3 minutes) as a response to the application question.
    • Please note: KLU does not condone plagiarism. We expect essays to be written in your own words, and referenced accordingly when necessary. To ensure the authorship, we use a plagiarism detection software to check all admission and scholarship papers.

Need-based scholarship component:

All or our scholarships are merit-based. We may additionally take your financial situation into consideration when evaluating your scholarship application. If you want us to do so, please fill in pages 2 + 3 of the scholarship application form.

Cost/funding for participants

Academic Achievement Scholarship

Candidates for the Academic Achievement Scholarship must display outstanding academic excellence and a drive to challenge themselves. Particular attention will be given to top grades in quantitative subjects: mathematics, statistics or quantitative analysis. Applicants for the Academic Achievement Scholarship are also asked to submit a reference letter from a teacher or professor supporting their academic strengths. 

Special requirements for Academic Achievement Scholarship:

  • Minimum academic performance of 1.5 overall GPA and 1.5 GPA quantitative subjects* (GPA: German equivalent; if you are unsure how to convert your international grade and are already admitted for a place of study at KLU, you may inquire with us whether you fulfill the GPA criterion); *mathematics, statistics or quantitative analysis.
  • Reference letter from a teacher or professor supporting your academic strengths.

Application question:

  • Identify your greatest academic achievement, and explain the skills and personality traits that will make you an exceptional KLU scholar.

Future Leader Scholarship

Candidates for the Future Leader Scholarship must be able to identify they are individuals that have launched a business venture or sought out leadership roles in their school, at work, or in the local community (start-ups, volunteer groups, leadership boards, student clubs, etc.). This scholarship is for individuals who showcase the skills and determination to take initiative and become a future leader.

  • Briefly explain what you believe is the definition of a leader. How do you portray these attributes, and how does it affect your future ambitions?
  • As a future business leader, what is one initiative you would like to pursue, or experience you hope to gain during your time at KLU?
  • As a future business leader, how will you continue growing and taking on leadership roles as part of the KLU community?

Social Engagement Scholarship

Candidates for the Social Engagement Scholarship display a strong commitment to the greater good. They demonstrate this through their actions and involvement within a local, national or international community. Applicants will be able to identify their community engagement, or give examples as to where their passion for service has positively affected others.

  • Explain/show what you have done to make a positive impact in your local community or on a global scale?
  • If you had unlimited resources, what would be the one initiative you would support and the steps you would take to make a positive impact?
  • During your time as a KLU student, what is something you are passionate about achieving or working on?

International Advocate/ IB Scholarship

Candidates for the International Advocate Scholarship / IB Scholarship bring international experiences and display a passion to learn from, and pursue a career in an international environment/sector. They are able to identify opportunities where they sought out international experiences, and what they have learned thus far.

  • Explain how being in an international environment, or seeking international opportunities has shaped your outlook thus far, and how your future career goals support an international outlook.
