The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme was established by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to enable French higher education establishments to attract top foreign students to enrol in their master’s and PhD courses.
It helps to shape the future foreign decision-makers of the private and public sectors, in priority areas of study, and encourages applications from emerging countries at master’s level, and from emerging and industrialized countries at PhD level.
Duration of the scholarship
PhD Programme: the Eiffel scholarship is allocated for a maximum of 12 months (a break-down can be operated).
Master’s programme: the Eiffel scholarship is allocated for:
- A maximum of 12 months, for an M2 enrollment (Year 2 of the Master’s degree)
- A maximum of 24 months, for an M1 enrollment ( Year 1 of the Master’s degree)
- A maximum of 36 months, for enrolling in a Master of Engineering degree
Application
1/ Application files as well as the documents listed below must be sent to bourse.eiffel@u-psud.fr:

- Curriculum Vitae/ Resume
- Cover letter / statement of purpose
- Transcripts of records (issued by all the Higher Education Institutions you were / have been enrolled in)
- Official academic ranking from the previous year stating the rank and the number of students in the same training course
- One or two testimonials
Incomplete or late application files will not be processed (no answers will be sent)
2/ The application will then be sent to the relevant course directors. If you are short-listed, you will then fill in the application form with your course director. The file will be sent by the main international office (DRI: Direction des Relations Internationales) to the course director(s) upon request.
PhD candidates should fill in the application form together with their PhD supervisors. The file will be sent by the main international office (DRI: Direction des Relations Internationales) to the PhD supervisor upon request.

At Master's: international student aged 25 or under (born after march 1999), in the following fields:
- Science and techniques: Biology and health, Ecological transition, Mathematics and digital, Science and engineering
- Human and social sciences: History, French language and civilization, Law and political sciences, Economics and management
You must be applying for the first time (combining the Eiffel scholarship with another financial aid from the French government is not possible). Candidates already studying in France are ineligible.
PhD scholarships: international PhD student aged 30 or under (born after march 1994), for the first year of a co-supervised or co-directed PhD program in the following fields:
- Science and techniques: Biology and health, Ecological transition, Mathematics and digital, Science and engineering
- Human and social sciences: History, French language and civilization, Law and political sciences, Economics and management
You must already be enrolled in a PhD programme to apply to this scholarship. You must be applying for the first time (combining the Eiffel scholarship with another financial aid from the French government is not possible).
