Overview

Start-up Denmark is an initiative by the Danish Government to help talented entrepreneurs relocate and grow high-impact startups in Denmark. If accepted, you can get a residence and work permanent for up to 2 years, with the possibility of extending for an additional 3 years. Start-up Denmark lets you live and launch your start-up in one of Europe’s most entrepreneur-friendly countries. It is a start-up visa scheme for talented entrepreneurs who want to grow high-impact start-ups in Denmark.

Details

The application process as a whole will take approximately 8 weeks. Once you have completed your application, your entry will typically be reviewed within 4 weeks by our panel of experts. If your evaluation is positive, you will be able to apply for the entrepreneur residence permit. (Further information regarding residence and work permit as an independent can be found here) Up to four weeks after having applied for the entrepreneur residence permit; you will be informed about the result of your application. Please note that a positive evaluation from our panel of experts does not guarantee you the approval for the entrepreneur residence permit itself.

Start-up Denmark only accepts applications from non-EU (European Union) and non-EEA (European Economic Area) residents. Your business must have high growth potential as well as global market scope. The program is for early-stage businesses and can accept up to 2 founders. Businesses such as restaurants, retail shops, small businesses, and import/export enterprise will normally not be considered, as the program is aimed at innovative and scalable business. What do I get?

Accepted applicants get a residence and work permit for Denmark valid for two years plus possibility of extension. And this is much more than just a permit: It allows you to build your business in a renowned entrepreneurial ecosystem supported by great public business development initiatives and access to the European Single Market.

Besides access to various programmes and subsidy schemes this includes free tailored counselling in public business development centres. Here, consultants can boost your start-up and guide you through Denmark’s vast opportunities for entrepreneurs, such as accelerators, co-working spaces, investment funds and grassroots initiatives.

Moreover, you get access to most welfare benefits – such as healthcare and education. This also applies to accompanying spouses and children.
