Overview
The Coimbra Group is proud to announce the 10th edition of its annual Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition! This flagship event continues to showcase the research excellence and communication talent of doctoral candidates across our network. Coimbra Group universities wishing to participate are invited to notify the Office and to host their own institutional 3MT competitions as the first stage of the process.
The winner from each university will then proceed to the network-level selection, where three finalists will be chosen through a voting process involving the entire Coimbra Group community. The live final will be hosted at the University of Granada on Thursday, 18 June 2026, as part of the Coimbra Group Annual Conference (16-19 June 2026).
This special edition promises to be a highlight of the conference, bringing together outstanding early-career researchers and celebrating a decade of impactful scientific storytelling.
Details
The Three-Minute-Thesis Competition (3MT) is an academic competition challenging PhD students to present their research in under three minutes to a general audience, in English.
The 3MT celebrates research discoveries and encourages you to share the significance of your PhD project with a broader community in an engaging, audience-friendly way.
1st Round
The competition will take place on 25 February 2026.
A jury, supported by audience votes, will select the top three presentations from 10 finalists. A winner will be chosen from these three, who will have the chance to advance to the second round.
2nd Round
The video of the winning presentation will be submitted to an independent Coimbra Group jury, which will select three finalists from among the winners at each participating university in the international Coimbra Group Three-Minute-Thesis Competition.
The selected finalists will compete in the final round on 18 June 2026, hosted at the University of Granada.
