Overview

What is it like to work at a research institution? What steps are necessary to get from an idea to conclusive research results? We provide comprehensive insight into practical research work at our institution for interested students.

Details

Join us for an internship of up to three months and work together with our researchers on projects in one of our 15 research facilities. Your internship will be rich in variety: routine scientific work from formulating a concrete topic for research and data collection to the evaluation and presentation of the results, or the high-quality input provided by the business units.

More than 50 students a year seize their chance of completing an internship with us. The Institute for Employment Research is always looking for highly motivated people who contribute their fresh ideas and their expertise to our teams.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated students primarily from the following disciplines:

  • Economics
  • Social sciences/Sociology
  • Statistics
  • Media and communication
  • IT
  • Workforce management/Psychology.

How to apply?

  • Please send your unsolicited application to us ideally six months prior to your desired start date.
  • Please state your time corridor and the desired duration of your internship (e.g. time corridor August to October, duration two months).
  • State up to three areas which interest you the most, with your favourite area named first.
  • Don’t forget to enclose a current certificate of enrolment and a transcript of grades for your academic performance to date.

The IAB

As in hardly any other policy field, labour market decisions are supported by scientifically sound advice. The Institute for Employment Research (Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung, IAB) makes a central contribution to this. The IAB researches the entire range of the labour market from the point of view of different disciplines and in the social context. High-quality research and comprehensive, secure data bases form the foundation of sound policy advice and professional knowledge transfer.

To communicate our work in an even more transparent way and to intensify our networking also within the Institute, we have established a new structure with ten focus areas. Eight of these focus areas refer to research in terms of contents, one of them is dedicated to data and methods. Two further focus areas represent science-oriented services.
