Overview

The Olde Vechte Foundation is a verified hosting organisation for the European Voluntary Service project (EVS). As an organization we provide a playground where people can experiment and experience different aspects of self-awareness and group dynamics. Through our volunteering programmes young people have the opportunity to learn and practice in different function areas of the foundation and other organizations in and around Ommen. The target group of all of our activities is young people regardless gender, physical limitations, religion, cultural differences, educational and social background. Basic requirement for our volunteers is that they come from an EU country and they are 18-30 years old.

We offer 3 volunteering programmes:

  • EXTRA MILE: Extra Mile is a long term EVS project for young people that have experience and are interested in running an NGO. The project starts in May and hosts 7 people. As volunteer you will work mostly in the Olde Vechte office and learn the administrative and financial aspects of functioning of the organization. You will get the chance to get new skills and develop valuable competences, initiate new projects and bring your ideas to life.
  • YES EVS: Yes EVS is designed for long term unemployed (at least 12 months) young people. The projects starts in September and hosts 18 people. As volunteer you will work in organizations such as campings, farms, animal shelter, elderly house, second hand shops etc. in and around Ommen and do mostly practical tasks. The goal of this project is to reinforce your entry to the labour market.
  • GROUP EVS: Group EVS is a short term project that aims to bring together young people with limited opportunities to participate in international activities. The project takes place in summer and volunteers have the chance to get to know new cultures and gain new knowledge and experience. Part of the experience is working at one or two working places in and around Ommen where you will mostly do practical jobs according to your interests. It could be horse farm, pet shelter, vineyard, camping site, group accommodation, farms. Group EVS is a project with great impact on the local society and an empowering experience for the participants.

About us

Olde Vechte Foundation was conceived as an initiative of a group of people, who in 1966 identified a great need for learning that is not provided by the established educational system. Society keeps on changing over the years, becoming more and more intercultural. Still, the need of an “out of the school system” education stays around.

The Foundation’s mission is to create a learning environment out of love, care and cooperation for everyone; especially for people whose needs cannot be met by formal education methods. Modern approaches of non-formal learning are used in all the activities of the Foundation. Kinaesthetic, auditory and visual senses are involved, bringing about learning by experiencing and enabling the full participation of the trainees.
