Overview
The Young Climate Prize is a biannual hybrid award and mentorship program for under-25s founded and organized by The World Around. The prize aims to amplify and accelerate the impact of global climate-change focused projects by pairing 25 young climate leaders under 25 years old with their own mentor from the global design and architecture community. Three winners are flown to New York City to share their work and ideas at the Guggenheim Museum in New York at The World Around’s annual Summit. Nominations and applications for the 2025 cycle will begin on Earth Day 2024.

The World Around is launching the Young Climate Prize to give 25 under-25s the opportunity to receive visibility, support, and mentorship to expand their projects from our international list of award-winning Design Champions.

The World Around invites its community to help us expand and grow to include, support and nourish the next generation. If you know of any 13-25 year olds who are taking the initiative to make changes in their immediate community and who would benefit from being part of our inaugural cohort of 25 under-25s with guidance and mentorship from our international Design Champions, please nominate them below and we will reach out and notify them when applications are open.

APRIL, 2024 - 2025 PRIZE CYCLE LAUNCHES
The World Around Young Climate Prize is looking for 25 exceptional designers, scientists, artists, activists and entrepreneurs under the age of 25 from all over the world, that are actively building a more sustainable future. If you are under-25 and have your own climate resilience, action or design project or know someone who does, please nominate now! Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged!
APRIL 2024 - APPLICATIONS OPEN
Applications are open! It is free to enter the competition to be one of the exceptional 25 under 25 cohort. The process is simple and is open to anyone between 13 and 25-years-old who have been using design, architecture, technology and creative and cultural skills in the fight against the climate emergency.
AUGUST, 2024 - APPLICATIONS CLOSE
Applications will close at the end on August 31, 2024 at 23:59.
SEPTEMBER, 2024 - 25 WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The inaugural cohort of 25 winners into the The World Around Young Climate Prize will be selected by our international jury and will be announced in September 2024.
OCTOBER 2024 - YOUNG CLIMATE PRIZE ACADEMY BEGINS
The World Around Young Climate Prize Design Academy of lectures, presentations and mentorships for the chosen cohort of 25 takes place online between October and December 2024.
APRIL, 2025 - WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Three winners: Young Climate Designer, Young Climate Voice and Young Climate Visionary will be selected by a jury and will present their work at The World Around's annual summit in April 2025.
INAUGURAL EDITION - YOUNG CLIMATE PRIZE 2023
The inaugural edition of the Young Climate Prize took place in 2023! Between January and March 2023 an extraordinary talented cohort of young climate designers, thinkers, makers, builders and creators were paired with their own mentor, and attended a bespoke Design Academy program of talks and skills workshops. The talented young people then re-submitted their projects to an independent international and world reknown jury. Three winners were selected who were flown to the Guggenheim Museum in New York to receive their awards, and present their work and ideas at The World Around’s annual Summit. The World Around was founded in New York in 2020 by Diego Marroquin and Beatrice Galilee. Our global platform seeks to connect and create a diverse and international network of the most exciting and creative designers and thinkers with wider industry professionals through high-impact educational initiatives and events championing the most progressive ideas and compelling projects. WHO CAN APPLY?
Anyone aged 13-25 can submit their work. We encourage young people from anywhere in the world to share their projects. If English is not your first language you will be able to indicate this during the application process.
DO I NEED DESIGN DEGREE?
There is no academic requirement and no need to have a formal design education.
