Remote within the US - Internal Audit Data Analyst Intern

BEFORE APPLYING, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • Able to commit to a minimum of 24 hours per week for the entire internship period: 20 May – 16 August.  

  • Eligible to work in the United States.

  • Must have a valid US Social Security Number.

  • Be physically located in one of the following states where WVI is registered as an employer: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

  • Current student or recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within 2 years).

  • Adhere to World Vision International’s Christian Statement of Faith.

  • Willingness to use own electronic devices for internship purposes, and disposition to let WVI install endpoint security software on those devices.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

VisionFund (VFI) is the microfinance arm of World Vision. It provides credit, insurance, and savings services to underserved communities around the world. The Global Internal Audit (GIA) department provides independent and objective assurance and consulting services to VFI. It aims to enhance and protect organisational value and assist VFI in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the organisation's governance, risk management, and internal control.

The Opportunity

VFI GIA's key strategic priority for FY24 is to develop and expand its data analytics program. This includes rolling out the use of IDEA and PowerBi to an additional 14 Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. GIA also intends to review and revise its current reporting and develop guidance to ensure a uniform methodology across the network.

As an Internal Audit Data Analyst Intern, you would bring fresh insights and new perspectives to the team, as well as:  

  • Join a global audit team from different cultures and backgrounds who have experience in microfinance, data analytics, audit, finance/accounting, economics, and fraud, and are enthusiastic about coaching and mentoring you.

  • Develop skills in analytics, including analysing, developing testing/macros, and reporting on large data sets.

  • Develop and/or review existing reports, providing feedback to key stakeholders.

  • Access weekly professional development programming delivered by WV People and Culture.

  • Make a lasting impact on the lives of the most vulnerable children.

The intern’s responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the development and rollout of the new data analytics methodology.

  • Developing tests/templates by analysing data against policies and best practices.

  • Recommending changes to audit procedures and tools based on knowledge gained through analysis.

  • Revision and development of reports/dashboards in PowerBi.

  • Assist in the development of instructions/procedures to ensure a uniform methodology regarding analytics.

Essential qualities for this role:

  • You are known for your attention to detail and work accuracy.

  • You have experience working with data extraction and interrogation software such as IDEA, PowerBi, or other analytical tools (such as Python).

  • You can analyse data and summarise findings clearly and logically.

  • You have experience developing dashboards and reports

  • You have experience interacting, communicating, and collaborating with others effectively. 

  • You feel comfortable working independently to achieve the desired outcome on time.

  • You are responsible, responsive, and enthusiastic.

  • You are passionate about using your God-given talents to positively impact the world.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of audit (internal or external) methodology (desirable, not essential).

DETAILS

  • Stipend: This internship is unpaid, but interns receive a monthly stipend of $800.

  • Hours: Full-time and part-time opportunities are available (24-40 hours/week)
