Overview

With tens of millions of active users and hundreds of thousands of daily downloads, we’re among Europe’s leading app developers. Our sights are set on becoming the world #1. At the very core of this thrillingly ambitious mission is our team of bright, innovative, and collaborative software engineers. Join our quest and learn how to create beautiful, robust code to automate processes, amaze users, or manage mountains of data. We can’t wait to teach you all our secrets!

Details

Your responsibilities will vary according to the team you’re assigned to, but you can expect to do the following:

  • Constantly improve the quality of our products, tools, or infrastructures by fixing bugs and refactoring the code base where necessary.
  • Participate in product development, discovering how complex product roadmaps come into being.
  • Work closely with our software engineers to expand our set of libraries and make our processes ever-more efficient.
  • Learn about the latest and greatest technologies, testing the promising ones to make sure we don’t miss out on game-changing opportunities to boost our productivity and the enjoyment of our work.

The recruiting process

If you successfully pass through our screening process, we'll invite you to take on a few tests aimed at assessing how you think and solve possibly unfamiliar problems. These tests don't require any prior knowledge, and they should take you a few hours to complete. If you're successful there, we'll invite you to some interviews—normally two or three—to get to know each other and figure out if it’s a good fit for both parties. There, we'll ask you some behavioral and problem-solving questions. The interviews are held remotely. To limit arbitrariness and human bias, Bending Spoons' hiring decisions are made by a hiring committee.

About us

It’s a weird name, isn’t it? We chose Bending Spoons after the iconic scene in The Matrix, where the hero discovers that what seems impossible often isn't. In 2013, when we were a punchy little startup, the parallel seemed appropriate. Today, even more so. That five-person startup has blossomed into 200-plus bright, curious, and inventive Spooners from more than 20 countries. Some of our apps have become household names. Take Splice—in terms of revenue, the world's number one mobile video editor. Or 30 Day Fitness—the Health & Fitness category leader with over 60 million downloads. Plenty has changed since those early startup days. But our mission remains steadfast. We're still going all-out every day to improve lives through our products, our career opportunities, and our impact on the world. It’s a wonderful journey to be on! P.S. We've won a bunch of awards for being one of Europe's best places to work and Italy's best place to work for women, for innovators, and overall. Description of Ideal Candidate

What we look for

  • Passion. You love what you do, and your enthusiasm never wavers with the specifics of a given task or team. Whether you’re on a plane, train, or sofa, odds are that you’ll be found with your nose in a book or article on the subject.
  • Reasoning and depth of learning. You’re structured and creative enough to solve most challenging problems independently, given the necessary knowledge. You learn new concepts and skills rapidly, and love to nerd out and go in-depth.
  • Curiosity and initiative. You love exploring, and are forever hunting down new opportunities and testing fresh ideas. Rather than waiting to be told what to do, you go seek.
  • Accuracy and precision. Your attention to detail is spot-on, and you’re painstakingly accurate.
  • Drive. You’re energetic and hard-working, and you persevere through adversity until the job is done—and done impeccably. You’re massively into getting results, and always aim for excellence in what you do.
  • Diligence. You’re conscientious and can be depended on to carry out your duties with rigor. You’re energetic and persevere until the job is done, and done impeccably.
  • A collaborative nature. You can understand others and work well with them, balancing patience and assertiveness.
  • Humility. You’re down to earth, eager to listen to feedback and constructive criticism, and ready to support your team with whatever it needs to succeed.
  • Willingness to learn. We use Python for backend, and Swift and Kotlin for mobile. But it's not a problem if you have little or no experience with them, as long as you’re enthusiastic about learning. We’d be happy to teach you!
  • You can work at least 25 hours per week. A full-time commitment is preferred, but we’ll consider applicants who can commit to around 25 hours per week.

What we offer

  • Real impact. We automate most menial tasks, freeing you up to focus your expertise where it can make the biggest impact.
  • Talented, knowledgeable colleagues. Learn from (and teach) some of the brightest and most skilled people you’ll ever meet. Your talent is going to blossom here.
  • People who lift up one another. We hire for talent and leave the ego at the door. You'll find a group of truly talented Spooners who are eager to teach their secrets and to learn. Reciprocal support and respect is everything—you’re unlikely to ever encounter a more harmonious crew.
  • Flexibility and trust. From day one, you’ll be one of the team and fully trusted. No micromanagement or clipping your wings—just the freedom and responsibility to do great work.
  • Flexible schedule. Our regular hours are 9-6 GMT+1, but this isn’t a “clock in, clock out” company. You’re fully trusted to create the right conditions for your own personal peak productivity. We only ask that you’re available to your teammates a good chunk of the day (six hours or so). That’s why it’s generally best to be based somewhere with a similar time zone—between GMT-2 and GMT+3.
  • Continuous education. Spooners get unlimited backing for learning investments, including Italian or English lessons and things like courses, conferences, and books. There’s no permission or approval process—you’re fully trusted to use the company’s resources efficiently.
  • Competitive salary and stock options. Our compensation packages are designed to attract and retain the best talent in the industry. The entry-level compensation package for this position includes a salary of €46,604, extra pay of €5,642, and a welfare bonus of €1,200. Compensation can grow rapidly as the individual accumulates experience and translates it into greater and greater impact. The individual can choose to receive part of their pay in equity at a discounted value, rather than in cash.
  • Long-term paid internships. Because our internships (both full- and part-time) require a minimum commitment of 12 months, you’ll have a real opportunity to gain meaningful experience and build crucial skills for your future career.
  • The finest tools. You get the best hardware on the market and all the software you could need. We can't wait to introduce you to our high-tech approach and our cutting-edge workflows.
  • Wonderful HQ. Natural light, silent rooms, state-of-the-art hardware, fun-filled common spaces... the list never ends! You’ll certainly be in the right environment to do your best work. And, when it’s time to switch off, you can do that in style and comfort.
